Puzzled,

I should take this one back to the autoelec, who I think created the prob.

When I first pruchased the Car late 2002, I had a FM modulator installed to the Stock Sound. I didn't use the A/C or Climate control for a couple of days but soon after noticed that my C/Contol Modes were wrong and was defaulting to the Floor instead of the Dash.

The Thermostatic control had gone a miss also with 18 degrees as cold and 19 onwards as hot with nothing in between. Freezing or sweating was the choice.

Checked some websites for diag instructions and found that 2 of the C/Contorl sensors were dodgy, one being the light sensor in the dash.

How does it sound?

Is this something I can fix?

Is this a costly autoelectic job instead?

I have noticed my climate control has a mind of it's own. Depending on something (phase of the moon? I really don't know) it will start on floor, vents or half and half, then change later. It may have something to do with where it senses the biggest temp difference or something. It's heat settings seem to work ok though, and if I don't like what it defaults to then I over-ride it.

If you do the air con diagnostics, remember to do it in the sun or shine a light onto the light sensor or else it will come up faulty.

I'm guessing that your interior temp sensor wasn't reconnected. My friend had the exact same symptoms and was fixed by connecting the interior temp sensor.

If it is heating (not just mixing a little warm air in), it will warm the footwell on 'purpose'. This, as far as I know, is normal - pressumably so you don't get a face full of hot air. As the ambient temperature rises in the vehicle it shifts the air flow back up to a combination of footwell and face vents and then eventually just the face vents.

I also have the exact same symptoms as previously descibed. Did you end up finding the interior sensor as this one seems to be faulty according to the diagnosis on my car. How much did it cost to fix and is it a diy job?

Also does anyone know what the three calibration readings are on the R33 in diagnosis mode 5?

Check behind your dash..there is a hose that goes to that little 2cm x 1cm vent not far from the steering wheel on the dash.. in there there is a little temperature sensor - its possible that is faulty or sitting in the wrong place.

It could even be possible somebody has not screwed it correctly back into the dash plate where it meets that reading vent, and its sitting there reading from the plastic or something like that.

I too have noticed with the cooling of the weather the climate control tends to be on the floor vents more often than the face vents. If the trend reverses again this summer I will presume that all is normal.

Mine is exactly the same in terms of heating from the footwell up. To be honest i thought it was obvious that if the car was to be heated, the hot air would come from below... and vice versa with cooling. Not trying to be a smart a$$ or anything but that's just how it should be. (Doesn't do it when only minor changes in temp are required though.)

So thats what that hose is. I found mine to be disconnected last time i pulled the dash off...

Should stick it back on then!

man i think climate control is such a gimmick .. it doesnt' work .. cause the cooling or heating is at the front ... takes too much time to reach temperature ... so i just manually set the temp myself ... the thermo couple is at the front too .. make sure that is clean for the best results i guess ... actually for BEST results .. place it where u want it to be the temp u want!!! :)

this was the exact problem i had. fixed my crazy aircon. it was all over the place. and now when i turn it on it starts in the footwell and then moves to the dashvents and behaves alot better.

i could be wrong...and normally am but i normally do mine so im pretty sure i am right this time...;P

turn off the aircond. then turn off the car..start the car back on and immediatly after the car starts, hold the OFF button on the aircon system for 10 seconds or at least until u see the whole display light up.

then press the temp UP(red one) to begin diagnostics. the first is the 20's and then 30's and etc...

im not sure what 30's and onward mean but on the 20's.. as long as it says 20, its fine. if its 25, it means the photo sensor on yr dash right near the windscreen is messed...clean it up and give it another go...that normally works for me
