Hi all, after getting my car back on the road fitted with a custom plenum made by plazmaman to suit my r34 gtt thought i would post how happy i am with the job alex and the guys there have done. the plenum and cooler pipes look great and the car is running great. I was worried about not retaining a smooth idle and things like that but was very happy to find it is running as smooth as factory. still not tuned properly so dont have accurate results but with the same boost level as before i can feel that the car is pulling so much harder, it's only been back on the road since friday so still cant tell for sure but i think the fuel economy might be a little better as well. Anyway a good job deserves good credit... will post before and after dyno sheets when i have them if anyone is interested..

The guys at Plazmaman will be able to help anyone out with info on the plenums, (02) 97251728, or www.plazmaman.com. as for the fitting of the plenum it couldn't of been easier everything lined up all bolt hole etc. there are a few little mods that need to happen like re routing of some vacume lines and blanking the original plumback piping etc, and a couple of other little things but all in all a easy conversion, i had the car running again in one day... I am more than happy to offer suggestions or help anyone out with info if they ever need some advise with fitting one...

Car rego 2 weeks ago plenum last week.... money is tight but yeah will get the dyno prints for this site asap, other than the car being tuned to suit the new plenum ther will be no other mods done for the dyno sheet.

yea, neo head requires different airflow. that's why the greddy full replacement is not a good idea on neo head 25's. still hope a full replacement plenum comes out for the neo

Paid 1195 for it. Yeah i searched for so long to try and find one that is a off the shelf bolt on item but had no luck, i heard of some people trying to fit a greddy style or jun plenum but not sure how they went with that.. I Know the inlet runner diameter is a diffrent size though on the 34 compared to the 33 and different idle control motor etc etc so it was good to find the plazmaman one to suit. Was either that or a custom one off plenum

infected flow has a greddy on his 34 which i assume, is the reason for the 'sunny' comment. since he now assumes he knows all the answers about this.

I'm sure it will improve performance but i'm interested to what extent. I was told although they can be fitted to a neo they are less than ideal.

hopefully he can add some dyno before and after to shed some light on this. if t works well i'm all for the idea.

Ahh the old NEO plenum issue eh ?

I researched this many moons ago !! :mrt:

I only recently found out that plazmaman have made a bolt on kit for the neos, so when the time comes I will be giving them a call to find out more info on them. Saw the pics on the website already, they look the part at least !

For the time being I have decided to keep the stock plenum as many tuners in Japan leave the stock one on there unless they are aiming for 600ps +.

However when I was doing my research on them, since the plazmaman kit was not available yet there were only two "bolt on" options I could go for.

1. Purchase a Greddy plenum for the 33 and make it fit. In order to make it fit though, new holes will need to be drilled in the cylinder head as the stud patterns are different on the neo head, something which I DIDNT want to do.

2. A company that goes by the name of Ricoh Racing in Japan make adapter plates so you can bolt on an RB26 plenum on there. Nomuken uses them on his D1 cars.

If I decide to develop the car further (still contemplating) I think I will do the engine internals first than crank up the boost and see what power she makes, then maybe go for the plenum and Q45 throttle body to see gains I get.

Which brings me to my question as to what throttle body you used on the plazmaman plenum ?

On their website they recommend using either the R33 throttle body or a 70mm race spec one which they are soon to released or have they released it already ?

I would also love to see some of your before and after dyno printouts oh and of course some pics :)

I had the same trouble trying to find a plenum as well looked far and wide, I used the r33 throttle body on my car i dont think the plazmaman throttle body is raedy yet. i went with a 33 one because the throttle linkage is on the engine side of the plenum there was clearance issues with trying to use a ford xf one the relay box is in the way of the throttle linkage and the standard one is to long thanks to the traction control (who wants that anyway)... oh and using the 33 throttle body the 34 throttle position sensor bolts straight up as well..

unfortunately not thats a pick it up price, still not bad though when i was looking around for a plenum it was goin to cost between 1 to 2k to get a one off custom plenum made and i would have still had to fit it myself.

Yes mario has one on his NEO and he may have the answers but he never seems to feel like passing them on to us properly. I doubt he installed it himself so maybe that's the reason why.

no i didnt actually fit the plenum myself but i was there while they fitted it and ask all the questions i could think of ..like whats midrange like how about top end, now about dyno figures its a bit diffcult because i also installed a exhaust manifold the same time but it did make improvements and it suited me.

theres two ways u can look at it ,

1. power versus money spent

2. was it really necessary

the first point i had the option of plazaman and hypertune and micksmetalcraft and greddy

price wise expensive to less expensive

i think it was hypertune

plazmaman

micksmetalcraft

greddy

but keep in mind power versus money

they start at what $1600 and end at 850

now that being said they all pretty much do the same thing but there might be some little gains to be had between them all.

they all need throttle bodies well if your upgrading the plenum u would want to upgrade the throttle body to make the diameter bigger and beter response. Also the cable and tps sensor needed to be sourced/changed at the time.

my power goal at the time was 300 or just a tad over and achieved the 300rwkw with a hks 2835 pro s.

before the plenum and mainfold i was getting 285rwkw now when i changed the two items i had hit 300rwkw with that turbo.

but before i change the two items i had problems one of them being flow restriction and the other holding boost - now i never thought that changing these two items it would hold boost at high rpm but i was wrong and it took me by surprise.

The outcome was that boost would hold at high rpm and the flow improved response and midrange to high end power.

now i have changed the turbo to a much larger unit and i was thinking great here comes the lag but in actual fact it worked a treat with having 16psi by 3500rpm and then 4000-4200rpm having 1.5bar and hitting over 320rwkw no probs with flow restriction or boost and response.

Now all this being said a lot of people believe that the standard plenum is fine unitll 300rwkw well i dont agree at all if the plenum is changed earlier on there are gains to be had with a smaller turbo but with a larger turbo there are much more gains.

Now you could spend $1600 or whatever but in the end it comes down too what u really want from the car or what u are trying to achieve for example: response = no lag but limits top end

mid = little lag great midrange and a little top end

top end = lot of lag fantastic midrange and fantastic top end

what im basically saying is that each plenum is designed differently so it will have a different outcome just like a turbo so its pick and choose..now ive givin you an example of what ive done with your average greddy plenum on the 34 but dont get me wrong im sure improvements can be had by getting a custom one done , its a trial and error situation alot of time and money spent on air flow charaterstics with the plenum and runners.

So therefor it comes down too what u want and how much are u willing to spend..

now the reason why i couldnt be bothered writing up is because cockheads write shit up like this ..i didnt say i know all! i said back up what u wrote about the greddy plenum ..

people are more inclined to share if u ask ..

    • The cam I am actually putting in (a few posts up) is actually smaller than my current one. At least duration/overlap wise. All the chop stuff I hear just sounds like an engine running badly, because it is. I then envision driving it around in 1st gear and being massively sad about it bucking to the beat of said chop. There is an idle video of someone with a similar cam floating around the internet, but mine is a custom cam (so is his) so it'll never be the same, plus the fact exhausts are entirely different. What I want to do is put some bullet mufflers/race mufflers in to replace a couple sections straight pipes that currently replace the two extra cats that I don't need. But this is even further down the line!
    • I can tell you now, when the bracket that the little hydraulic ram attaches to snaps, with a subframe, and V8 from an AMG C63 on it, it sounds like someone letting shotgun off right beside you. It leaves your ears ringing, and a huge thankfulness that you never ever put a body part under something heavy that's only supported by a hydraulic lift...
    • Still not a guarantee fix. I used a high quality butyl-mastiq (the black goo that's not really silicone nor polyurethane, same stuff they use from the factory that just spreads out like melty cheese), and I still get lots of water on both sides of the trunk when raining or washing the car. I also suspect the factory spoiler rubber gasket might not be sealing well, so I'm thinking of adding a thin layer of grey silicone around the bolt holes on both sides and see if that's where it also leaks from. The biggest issue is that these cars don't come with a drain hole on each side like other coupes and hatchbacks.
