Very Very Very Anooying Problem With Boot...

hi guys....

i opened my boot and removed spare tyre... and

the water was all over the boot....

i soaked all water out and leave the boot open to dry out...

it seems the water leaked from out side somewhere... but i cant find it....

the carpet in the boot wasnt too wet... and the wood deck was little bit soaked..

but the underneath that wood deck, where the spare tyre locate was filled with water.. the depth of water is about

2cm..

and i found out that the boot colour is different to the body colour.... may be it was been accident before....

should i do more seal around the boot? or ....... what should i do?

Silicone I guess... Abit strange .. Sure it wasnt a bottle which opened in your boot?

It was very wet this week but the carpet and wood should have been wet if i came in the top .. id spray everything with some fish oil too mate .. just to make sure if there is any rust it does not oxodise now because its able to get air ..

Is the engine bay a different colour to the car? when you say different colour is it like "poo brown?" because thats the undercoat they use to protect the metal .. they dont spray the boot bottom FYI

there was a huge thread about this on r33's leaking through the sealant on the overlap of panels above the tail lights, dont doubt that the 34's would be affected by the same thing.

thx guys... the different colour i mean... the actual surface colour where the wing sits on is different to the whole body... it looks very new.. mine is red and the boot colour is very bright red and other part colour is bit faded away....

ill look up the thread and better have to check with mechanics.... i hope is not cost me very high.... i always was going to buy body kit since i bought my car but i spend most of the money to fix the problemssssss and services..... let me mod my f#$@kn car......

Just had that problem with my 33. The boot had filled up with water. I filled up a bottle with water, and got a mate to pour it on the rear window. The water runs down alongs the sides of the boot, through the tail lights, and out from under the car. In my case, it poured out the tail lights (BOTH!) and straight into my boot. All I needed was to re-seal the tail lights. Tried the bottle again, and it was gone.

i hope is not big big massive problem....

i cant believe didnt check the difference of colour on the boots when i buy this car...

Ah well.. no biggie! Prolly rear-ended at some point in its life, so the boot was replaced, and new taillights went in... and i'd guess that someone skimped on the sealant with the new lights.

My taillights were all factory gooped, but the water was coming in the threaded rod part of the taillight that goes through the boot wall.

Try the water trick to test... find out where the leak is, then take action. Shouldn't take more than a day if you have to run around getting sealant and a caulking gun, or order a new boot seal... whatever the culprit is.

have you driven the car in the rain before you discovered the water? i know of a few skylines and 180's that have been fixed from rear end accidents and the seam in the inner guard wasn't sealed up properly so when they drove in the wet the spray off the tyres made it's way into the boot.

Had a similar problem in my 32, when ever i'd wash my car (when we could still use water here in QLD) the left tail light would fill up and spare tyre hole would be slightly wet. Luckily it hadn't started rusting. Just removed the tail lights and re-sealed both of them. Solved the problem. Hopefully yours will we as straight forward. Removing tail lights is pretty simple. good luck with it

yes i did driven in the rain before i discover

actually this was the second time i discovered.

at first time i found that the carpet just on the wood deck was wetted.

and i thought that the water leak from over the boot.... butttt

at second time when i found out the water, the carpet wasnt tooooo wet... only little bit of edge was wet.

may be you right man! coz i cant find any water mark on boot lid or behind the tail lights or something...

was it rear inner guard problem?

also the water wasnt fresh.... it seems very grease.... may be it from the oils on spare tyre i guess...

anyway!! you are very helpfull!!!

thx man! but i dont think its tail light... coz i couldnt find any water traces on anyplace in the boot... except middle of boot floor mat.....

anyway ill find out and let you know cheer man!!!!

well after all this rain weve had in sydney i noticed my left taillights blinker was abit fogged up and had abit of water in it.

the carpet underneath it was abit moist and noticed abit of water on the side where the jack is.

i took the carpet behind the light off and gave the light a push from the outside in and i could see water sqeezing out from the join where the sealer was.

a mate that works at a panel shop just gave me sum of that black taillight gasket/sealer roll thing so use.

i'l try do that this afternoon.....dont think this rain will stop till early next week :|

Had he same prob with my 33.

I agree remove your lights and reseal them it solved my prob.

Mine used to leak a little bit so I just ran a nice bead of silicone around the top of the rear taillights. Theres no seal there on mine and the rain tended to run down the back of it into the boot.

Another thought, the rubber gasket between the boot and the spoiler usually dries out and deteriorates causing leaking (well did in my r31)

may just be the hose from the waterbottle not pushed on all the way. If u have a blockage they tend to push themselves off
