whilst sittn down at newcastles foreshore last nite(thursday) i noticed all large amount of police driving around, then around 9:00 they blocked off each end of the foreshore and set up 2 defect stations at the nobbies end making sure every car on the foreshore went through it, it seems as if there was a small contingent of sau there and alot of unhappy faces- good luck to those guys that got taken down the pits to be looked over more thoroughly, i hope your awesome machines are still able to be driven on public roads and you didnt recieve any fines

That is dodgey... I guess thats what you get for cruising high risk areas though. Cops target these areas obviously because they are plenty of young people parading their vehicles around and generally asking for trouble. It's exploitative though to block off the exit and force everyone through a defect inspection.

Good luck to the guys that were caught in it. It's a shame to have the cops pick on you like that.

wow thats pretty bad hey.

Not a fan of instantly setting up defect stations in known spots.

fair enough if your being a dick you deserve it but for thenormal guys, sucks ;)

but then again, if you have a modded car in a "popular area" you should know better also!

Thats harsh , here in melbourne they block off the freeway comming back from the city so everyone has to stop for breath testing and if you own an import you get signed off to another area were they have a seperate defect station so yeah thats what we get down here .

Its not a high risk area, we go in most weeks and the Police never even stop they just cruise through to check on things.

Last night was a planned attack. They had cops from Sydney and beyond. Every single car got checked, a few were lucky but most of us all ended at the pits. I have no idea what their reasons were but I suggest anyone in Newcatle planning to go for a criuse this weekend DONT!

Just a heads up to the Newie guys the Police are going to be having defect stations along with the EPA over the weekend.

I know I will be staying home ;)

How many skylines were there? And how many received defect notifications.

Did you end up staying home last night after I messaged you about not going out??

Basically any skyline that looked like it had mods done. They didnt even look at mine just said "You'll have to come over to Carrington with me"

There were so many cars there, mainly Skylines. There was a few WRX's and some Commodores too. A lot of P platers, I dunno why they pick on them ;)

I wasnt going to go but I said I'd meet Tinks etc in town and didnt wanna stand them up. I feel so bad for telling them to come up now. I've never seen them do that. I tried to get a tow truck home but couldn't get one so just faced the music. :)

Why are the cops so gun ho on removing all modified cars and people who enjoy modifying them?

Musta been a slow week with the lack of storms and damage to cars/homes..

;)

Incidently here is here the damage at a friends house:

post-18389-1182469941_thumb.jpg

was an interesting night, luckily i'm pretty much completely stock. All things considered most people got away with less defects than they could've been done for. Still dodgy regardless.

On a lighter note, it was good to see the newi guys, see the ship and have a good feed ;)

I was one of the unlucky ones :) I have to say the double standards of one person being defected, one being warned & one being passed for the exact same modification is a little .... hmmm.... shall we say.... FOOKED UP! Last night it all depended on the police officer that you got ;)

My car is modified and is almost finished... I am booked in for the EPA test at Botany and have been for a few weeks now so I can get engineered. However this wouldn't of helped last night! A friend of mine with a CA18DET powered Sunny is completely engineereed and yet still received 10 defects, couple hundred in fines with a few points thrown on top. An example of one of his defects was:

"brakes contaminated" - wtf? We are still trying to work that one out!

Anyways thanks to my wonderful female persuasion (well really just a nice RTA guy) I ended up with 2 defects (power steer leak and induction system) as well as a note that all mods to be certified. I only require a part inspection blue slip to clear the car. Meh....you win some, you lose some...... :)

BTW - Thanks Dave for the rims/MT's I picked up! :O

Yeh have learnt never to go out in newy cruising they get ya everything these days "Contaminated Brake fluid" LOL, wats the point in owning a modified car thats lets face it is in far better condition then half the cars on the road and yet they still find petty crap to do you for, i told tinks not to bother goin in there, hope most of you guys got out of there ok, go in during the day and be a tourist, of a night just askin for trouble.....

LOL Dave an i decided early it was a no go zone

lol......... I said that to the RTA guy at Carrington... he had a good chuckle.. if it wasn't for the cranky ass police officer I would of only got the power steer leak as my pod is COMPLETELY enclosed with a cold air pipe running from the front bar. Apparantly this is still a shady area...... although I did point out (nicely and not sarcastic etc) that the XR8 cop cars are running an enclosed pod system.. the police officer quickly changed the subject

Meh.... we wanted to see the ship and I haven't been to teh foreshore in many years (well at night anyways) and now I remember why!

Think only myself, zoomer (MX-5), Krystle, Lucas (Sunny) were sent.. although there was another 33 at Carrington with custom plates ---qatar or something......

Yeh defects in general are a shady subject lol, as long as its completely closed off it dont matter

you know the stupid thing in QLD, you can have an open pod no box needed as long as it has a bracket holding it to the car so it doesnt move around..makes no sense at all how they can make all these defects up.

HAHA so true bout the new XRs they could be defected standard. Yeh def next time i think its a BBQ at someones house dont wanna have to go through all that crap again. way to end a good cruise end up in the pits, how did Kasey and wayne get out?

Hmmmm Kasey & Wayne & Drew were the first ones to leave the carpark once they told us we might as well go up cause they were going to sit there all night until we moved!

The bashtards got sent straight through up towards Holiday Inn... didn't even pull them in! Every single one of us got pulled in... no exceptions... although if I had of gone first I don't think the scenario would of changed.... even though from the outside Kaseys looks more modified than mine!

and in VIC you are allowed PODs OR a front mount.

So basically 3 different laws in the space of the whole of the east coast of australia.

Yeh so ridiculous, in QLD, exposed pod, fmic as long as no reo bar is cut, its a joke how can three diff states have 3 diff rulings, up until last year you could have a atmo venting supersonic BOV on ur car an not get done for it in QLD, now its only noise they do ya for

Yes Noise polution is the only thing that makes a BOV illegal, Which sucks and blows.

Like SA you can have a POD as long as it does not move but here in NSW you can have one as long as you can see it ( BOXED IN) stupid and this is because it increases noise either out the pod or the exhaust.

My 2 cents

    • If doing that ^, I'd take the idle up valve out and plug the hole in the pump.
    • You can try capping the power steering idle up valve at both ends if it's old. The valve and the intake manifold. That is something that is known to fail in Toyotas with age and it will suck power steering fluid into the intake and burn it in the engine which can cause issues. Then bleed it again with engine off first. Do like 30+ lock to lock turns with the front wheels off the ground.
    • Hi Brent, I am wondering if you ever worked this out? I have upgraded this unit to a newer one and everything works bar the reverse camera, so i really want to know what plugs are what so I can patch the camera through. many thanks in advance Mike
    • Once you have to get up in the morning and be useful, you suddenly value sleep it turns out :p
    • Update:   smoke test all pipes no issues cleaned reservoir   fluid put in ( dexron 3 atf)   steering turn side to side and could hearing  gurgling from steering rack which I assumed was air lock, opened one of the steering rack connections and could see loads of air getting pushed out( not sure if you meant to do that / whether it will re introduce air into system)   anyways, loads of side to side sound was gone. Turned car on, pump was slightly ( barely) wining so turned side to side few more turns and fluid level when car on was almost none in resorvoir which I guess is normal if car is one. Turned car of and fluid was gushing out. Almost 200-300cc was pushed out. Repeated engine off side to side followed  by engine on and same result       going mad now. It seems system is either sucking air in whilst on or there is tons of air which I am not giving it enough time to bleed. Thoughts?   would it work like brake caliper if I open steering rack copper pipes and let gravity pull all air out?   or maybe have a restriction somewhere? What is the red circled item, could that be blocked? It i
