Stretched Tyres

Ended up getting the 215/45 on the 8" front and 225/45 on the 9" rear.

Not over the top. Will probably go 235/40 on the next set though.

235 on 9" and 225 on 8" i find to be a pretty good combo. im running a 225 on a 8.5" at the front and a 225 on a 9.5" at the rear and i find it pretty good for drift, rear end is very predictable and front doesnt have much stretch which means it grabs the road well and is good for control without being too floppy for the longer corners where the front slides heaps as well.

another question... Would you need to be running higher tyre pressure for tyres that are not the "recommended size" for the rim? What sort of pressure are you guys running?

so tis stretch tyre thingy is tis good or bad?

i know stretching the tyre is to prevent it from rubbing on the fender. so will it cause the tyre to worn off unevenly?

grip wise/traction? no point buying good rubber for the grip and traction.

streching tyres is bad but some ful sic drifters think they know better than f1 teams and tyre manufacturers so they still do it

different application? The tyres on a f1 car is a critical and integral part of a f1 car's suspension setup. That's why they have high profile tyres as well.

u want less grip = stretch

u want more grip = dont stretch

Just need to ask a question about tyre stretching, and didn't want to make a new thread just to have Nismoid tell me to search

I currently have 245 semi slicks lieing around, and 265 rims... I need some drift wheels...

First question is, will that stretch? (i assume it would, but I don't remember the profile of the tyres, they are probably 50s off the top of my head)

And is it even smart trying to drift on semis?

semi's normally have stiffer sidewalls - so not sure they'll stretch well... *shrugs*

o.....k.........a 265 will fit on a number of different sized rims so find out what it is in inches

For example ive got 235's on a 9.5, and also 265's on a 9.5. But that doesnt make it a 265 rim, it makes it a 9.5rim

265 is a 10+ inch rim. 10.4 to be exact, but yeah.

A lot of Commodore/Falcons 17" inch rims run 235's so it easy to find still pretty decent tyres at my local tyre fitters to use at pratice days when you can't afford/don't need new tyres.

I wouldn't really call putting 235's on a 9 (what i run) stretching though but i know of others who run 235's on bigger rims because they are so cheap to buy good new tyres unlike 255's etc that can cost quite a bit when a small town tyre centre have to order them in for you.

But that could also be another reason (if it hasnt been metioned) that people stretch them...
