yeah.

1. gotta find correct bolts to screw them back on if the screws r not at the back of the headlights

2. saw 2 bolts on top of headlights, if that's undone, will that remove the assy without removing the bumper?

as removing the bumper sounds like a big job

why would nissan make it difficult to get access to the bulbs, what if the bulbs blown then the average owners (non-tech savvy) would have to bring the car in for 'service' at their nissan dealer???

if you take the front wheel off and jackthe car up its only about 4 or 5 bolts to remove the wheel guard lining thingo that exposes the whole back of the headlight assembly :D

i just changed my parker lights / city lights from stock yellow rubbish to white LEDs to match my xenons :D

i should post some pics..

think I may need to take off the whole assy and work on it while sitting on a bench rather than still attached in the car. the whole ballast thing and the xenon bulb socket is out of the car. does that step above only exposes the light or can give access to remove the light without bumper off?

how to identify which wire they cut from the ballast plug? would involve getting some new wires in case they cut it short?

i think you need to take the bumper off in order to actualyl take the headlight out..

or you can jsut loosen the bumper so that it comes forward enough to get the the required bolts. that way you wont have to separate the bumper from the aerodynamic lining under the engine

Ok, got some pics...

I believe these are all I need for restoring the factory Xenon... will I loose that fog lights as mentioned earlier in this thread? 2 balasts, 2 HID mounts, 2 bulbs... although I believe the bulbs are best to be replaced as they would've been dirty/oily and might just fog the inside glass of the headlight when the oils/dirt evaporate due to heat when they're on...?

Also, Chris, on the 2nd pic below, I'm just curious what's all that cable fuss is about? There's something that looks like an interior light? Like a courtesy light? These probably just go into the bin?

courtesy lights (at the feet of all the seats) were a dealer-fitted option

if you can find out where they plug into the car, please do tell :)

don't throw them out!

edit: if you're going to bin them i'll take them off your hands!

I'm not sure whether that thing is removed as part of the compliance or a part of factory immobiliser which Chris has removed as they often played up. Immobiliser replaced with a better 3 point immobiliser.

Gonna find out what they are...

My car however had a courtesy light that shines under the door when it's opened, and in the passenger footwell. Didn't see any light in driver footwell though... so those lights come off somewhere else... I suspect somewhere from the boot, but I've got boot courtesy light too, so not sure what they are? I'll wait for Chris' comment...

the standard fittment is a light on the door that shines down, and one light in the boot in the middle

the optional fitment was a light in each footwell and 2 extra lights in th boot

pretty easy to wire in, i was planning on wiring something myself oneday to light up the footwell's when the doors are opened, just tap into the +12V source from the door light (the bottom one that shines down)

just don't throw stuff out!

Keep us updated mate. I've just ordered my ignitors from the US to revert mine back as well.

All my parts are there except they cut the ignitors off, so I've re-ordered them.

The only problem though is i think the fu(kers have put some sort of glue there to hold the bulbs they put in.

I'll pull it apart once the ignitors get here and see how I go.

Does anyone know if you can get cheap headlights out of Japan like out of the US. All I'll need is the body, no ballast etc. I would use a set from the US however as has been mentioned the beam pattern suits driving on the opposite side of the road.

Hrms... angry... im sure theyre adjustable! I brought some from the USA but havent fitted them yet. Im sure they can be adjusted to suit driving here?

I will have my spare Jap lights after I swap them out. Are you keen on them?

If my bulbs are glued in I might have to buy them :-)

The prob with the US is that the beams lift higher on our right side as they drive on the right side of the road. This means that your beams are high into on coming traffic and you get little vissibilty of the left side of the road.

They are adjustable that it will not correct the below. Sorry for the poor drawing. :-)

Picture this beam pattern sitting the drivers seat

Yeah I know how the beam works, but the headlights have adjustments on them, just like the Jap ones. Its only a matter of millimetres of movement for it to change beam direction. There are threads on G35driver.com about how to adjust them etc etc

There are guys on this forum who have put the USA lights in their cars, so im sure it can be done.

Cool, let me know how you go.

You can definately adjust the beam, but I'm pretty sure you can't adjust the actual pattern.

The shape is made like it is on all cars so you can easily see pedestrians on the footpath (hence the higher beam on our left) without annoying on coming traffic.

I think Frank has these and has had problems with oncoming traffic.

first image hase EVERYTHING to put them back in. didnt see how long the leads were but if there is length there then the rest will be VERY obvious when you tear the car down.

the second image was the dealer fitted alarm that I ripped out. it also had the ctsy lights on it - easiest way to put them back in (which I wouldn't bother as there is NOT a slot for them) is to tie off the main light in the roof.

if he sends that pile to you there is a LOT of crap there.

I removed it. 90% of it was in with scotchlocks anyway.

door lights and boot lights are standard if they had the lights in the footwell then its dealer or customer added. have seen both and both were equally as messy.

exactly. that said I would grab some from a barina or mazda 626 hatch if you were going to do it. they are neater than the ones I pulled out.

in regard to lights - beam pattern. the reflectors are different.

Thank's, dun think i'll need the 2nd lot... you still want that lot of crap n cable, Waz ?? :domokun:

I'll send it to you if you pay for postage :yucky:

EDIT: Ok, i think the lot with those cable craps might be the extra boot lights like this (from JapanParts.com), might be able to hook it to the boot light's 12V source, as there's already 1 boot light bulb there in the middle.. those cable craps came out from the boot area, isn't it Chris? as I saw a couple of open holes on the plastic panels in the spare tyre well...

I also found out that the button for the auto dipping mirror (below steering wheel, right hand side near boot release button)

on reverse didn't work when I select reverse gear.

Tried what the others said on another thread to keep the mirror fold button (next to mirror adjustment knob) to stay on position

and on neutral, and tried turning on and off and it's not working either...

Is there a requirement in the ADR that this thing is disconnected during compliance? Gonna find a way how to dismantle the dash panel under the steering wheel to investigate...
