Drill a small hole into it... on the plastic somewhere thats not too visible.

Are you nuts??

Look, to make sure they do not fog up - when you install the lights in the first place, choose a warm hot day - get a soft cloth and clear out all gease, dirt and dust from the lights arch - now install the lights, then make sure you seal it up real good - now, purchase some cleaning lotion at Autobarne (ask for something that is made to clean up plastics etc) - rub away at the front of the lights - it will take a while, but work hard on them and they will shine.... now, just clean them every 2-3 months and you should be fine... my lights look brand new... because I do the above...

Good luck... don't drill any holes... the guy is nuts...drill holes and water will leak in, air will past through it etc and fog will build up even more...

good luck.

Hahahaha says the person wanted to import a Calsonic Skyline to use as a road car :laughing-smiley-014:

Drilling a hole will allow air to flow in and out and not fog up - Its like driving during a cold rainy day and the windows start fogging up - wind down the window and fog goes away.

nudge nudge

Sorry bro.... what you need is a thing called "clear seal" it's a white, see-through gel-like glue... must be bought at Bunnings or something... this did it for me... but when you seal it up, make sure you only use small dosages...

Good luck mate... let me know how you go..

Viet-tastic hommie... yep, and I still want to import an Calsonic Skyline... who wouldn't, right?

Laterz hommie... the the yellow and 3 red stripes represent yo!

PS: with the drilling thing - I still think it's not necessary.. why would you want a hole in your headlights holder when you can seal it up nicely.?

You would want to drill the hole in the light because it works how can you say the other guy is nuts have you tryed this before or not? And you take the light out drill in the bottom of it then put the light back in that way you wont even notice the hole.

If that's the case, then I guess you do have a point - yeah, I've never tried it... but drilling holes is the last resort IMO... but hey, if it works then up to the owner of the vehicle.

Cheers.

Soo.... fogging up? In which way? Condensation, or the hazy plastic problem that some R33's seem to have?

I have to get out the ol' plastic polishing cream and buff my headlights like crazy every couple of months to get them clear again. It sure isn't condensation on the inside, is this the same problem as you have?

If it's condensation, then I can see how the "hole-drilling" would help but if it's the magical "I bought it from Japan and now the plastic hates Australian climates" problem, i'm keen to hear more suggestions!

If your talking about condensation (looks to be fogging up on the inside after rain/wash) like the other guys said, drill a SMALL hole (or several) in the bottom of the lense this will fix it.

If the lights are going a yellow colour after a while get some plastic polish or look in the FYI/DYI are, i think there is a write up in there for a once off fix.

i wouldnt drill if i were you. i had this problem in my headlights, it was frustrating as all hell. it happened whenever i washed the car or left it in the rain. basically the water is leaking in somewhere, contained in a warmed environment (like a greenhouse inside the headlight), and condensation results.

the reality is that it will continue to happen, because water always gets into a leak point whenver its around. drilling a hole wont do anything, its just a bandaid. it will allow some of the water to drain over time, but not all. it will also allow dust in, so that when the light is damp, road dust will find its way in (just like water, its very sneaky), it wil cloud the headlight over time and make it look shit. no amount of plastic polish will help, cos the grime will be on the inside, not the outside.

only way to truly fix it is to take the headlight apart, clean it thoroughly, and reseal it. there is a guide on this forum about how to seperate the lights using an oven. resealing them, the best stuff to use is sikaflex, comes in a black tube, from any auto/hardware store. i did it, it was messy and time consuming, but the end result is 100%

    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
    • I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)
