By the sound of it though your not going to be able to just 'add more batteries'

Upping the voltage would probably work I would think, but you would need to fit thicker wiring.

The best gains in performance would probably just be seen by not using the AC or radio at the time.

EDIT: I would assume as wel of course that when not on throttle they would utilise the moving energy to recharge the battery a little? That way you could engine brake as well maybe

The batteries weigh in at 450kg each, so I think adding more would actually hurt performance, not help it.

I guess you could argue this way though. Do you really need to make a car, with a 4.0sec 0-60, faster?

true, space, configuration and electronic limitations (ala prius) would probably make it harder, but the concept still holds true. thicker wire is generally for more amperage not voltage, increasing voltage and decreasing amperage would make the current wiring quite ample.

it only has 1 single block battery ? that seems unlikely, but either way power to weight would still improve.

since when was anything 'fast enough' on sau :D
