Hey guys, I'm not having a go here, this is a serious question. Some of you here may be moving to P's driving turbo 32's, 33's and 34's maybe yeah? These new P laws are coming into effect at the end of this month yeah? If the law makes it illegal to drive these cars surely an insurance company isn't going to cover you when if you make a claim, they'll get out of paying you claim piece of p|ss.

It's a similar situation ot driving a car with unlisted modifications or an unroadworthy vehicle. Sure they are willing to insure you but when it comes time to claim they WILL knock you back saying you were driving the car illifaly. Just a bit of heads up huh! What are you guys planning on doing??

PS - I notice some are in GTS's and the law wont effect drivers already on P's :P

Yeah, not long until these new laws and penalties comes out. I don't get my licence until the end of the year so it means I can't drive my skyline. It's a bitch because this car was purchased WAY before they even anounced that these laws were coming in. I guess I can't do anything about it.

I'm planning on just getting an NA S13 or something. Something rear wheel drive for a bit of fun. They're cheap and it shoudn't matter if I damage it.

Being a young driver with an import seriously restricts the range of choices you have, i'm full comp with just car and paying a little over 4K, and has to be paid in one go, apparently theres a few smaller specialised import insurance companies out there, could be worth some investigation, i know i'll be looking when my insurance comes round again!

:D 4k. how come u getting charged that much?

cause its an imported skyline, i'm on p's, i have a driving record, and i have a minor accident history, and i'm male under 25, so its like the worst combination possible. But if its the sacrafice i have to make to have the car, then i'm willing, but reluctant to make it...

Yeah fair enough, see my first car was a VB SL, was clean enough so I can get where you're coming from. A Silvia might be a bit more fun though

I was paying about 3k for full comp when I was under 25 rating 4.

I thought full comprehensive insurance on an aussie car would be cheaper.

The only down side to having a Silvia is that it's an import and the police are just going to pull me over to check whether it's a turbo or not. The NA S13 is the best car out there at that price though in my opinion. Hopefully it's not too bad.

f**k I dunno how to say what I wanna say :D I thought the insurance company was insuring you to drive the car regardless or weather or not the law says you can or can't. If you go through all the stuff to get insurance and they are happy to insure you driving a car they know full well is illegal for you to drive they can't exactly turn around at claim time and say were not gonna cover you....fair enough if you have illegally modified the car etc. wouldn't it be their responsibility to say no we can't insure you for that car as it's illegal for you to drive?

Also I fail to see how the new laws change anything, 125kw/tonne pretty much ruled out everything the new laws do....there used to be plenty of p platers getting around in 33gtst's and crashing them and getting insurance payouts for them, it was illegal then it's illegal now, where's the difference?

The loop hole i would imagine would be

They can insure you, i mean its not wrong for them to give you full comp, for things like theft and what not.

But if you contradict the road laws then they dont have to pay you out.

Its a bit stinky i agree, but i can understand. You might own a car and not wish to drive/be allowed. But you could still insure for theft, and say if you left the handbrake off and it rolled out the driveway into 4 car or something equally as unlikely to occur

It's simple, Insurance companies want to make as much money as possible. When anyone slams a car into a pole etc and they have to pay out, they are not making money, they are loosing it. If an insurance company can find ANY way to get out of honoring a claim they will. Whether it be unlisted modifications, drink/drug driving, driving under age, driving while disqualified or driving a banned car on your P's etc. Insurance companies are dogs. Never forget that :)

hmm suppose, it's still dodgey as in my opinion. kinda makes you wonder sometimes though about comp insuring modified cars and is it worth it, I mean if the insurance company turns around and says your car is illegally modified which lets face it pretty much changing a car in any way is illegal what can you do....coulda saved how much money over the last how many years only paying 3rd party....still I need to get me shannons insurance the whole lay-up cover thing, Awesome! :)

with Insurance companies, its up to YOU to make sure its legal.

If you arent licenced to drive/ride a certian vehicle - and you have a policy thats current, the insurance company CAN turn aound and decline any claim.

Its not upto them to tell you - they arent the police or VIC roads/RTA.

Hence why all companies say "please read the PDS before...."

as far as I can see, anyone under 25 have just cars or young and cool, oh and famous

Oh, and the 5% driver thing?

hahahaha if thats a risk you want to take....go for it - once again - claim time - investiagtor...declined.

:)
