Should I Put Braided Brake Lines On The Skyine?

Looking for any experiences good or bad with braided brake lines on R33's

I have them on my 180sx and they are great, but are they a good idea for the skyline?

You mean ADR approved. And Maltech in Geelong are (supposedly) the only manufacturer with said ADR approval.

Great idea for a 32, can't imagine it would be any different for a 33.

my braided lines are ADR approved. made on the spot by a mob called mobile auto hoses.

all positives by my count, the only negative would be that the braided lines actually keep heat within the lines. be sure to run high temp fluid if you intend on doing track work.

I didn't think there would be any issues with the swap.

That car wont be doing any track time, but high temp fluid might be a good buy.

The main reason for the change is that I normally drive my 180sx which does have braided brake lines, and every time I get in the skyline it feels like it has no brakes. So this should make the brakes on both cars feel the same :-)

A change of fluid and a decent bleed go along way. that said i have the maltech ones and they are excellent.

Only thing i would look for is alloy fittings instead of stainless/brass, but its not really a big deal theres not that much extra weight.

Another thing which make a HUGE difference to your braking is a Master Cylinder Stopper.

Try this.

Start your car.

Lift bonnet.

Get mate to pump brake pedal hard to the floor.

Watch how much the fire wall flexes and how much the Master Cylinder moves.

Watch in horror!

Then you will go and buy yourself a Master Cylinder Stopper, install it.

This time, get mate to adjust the Stopper whilst you pump the pedal........ have him wind it in by light pressure on an allen key whilst you pump the pedal.

Feel how quickly the pedal starts to feel solid.

Lock stopper into place with locking nut.

Smile.

Go about your day.

But buy a decent one with a turned head on the end the screw or the end of the screw will push into the aluminium of the Cylinder casting.

Buy a Nismo set..I think they have adr approval..because they are a NIssan arm.

Not having a good feel in the brakes can be a bit sus..I would get your disks and pads at the front checked out first..they could be crap

Anyway...all these ideas cost money..so do it right the first time.....

I'm running goodridge braided lines and I love the. Its hard to say if it improved the pedal feel becuase I changed alot of things in my braking system at the same time, but they don't seem to hurt.

Also, where do I find a master cylinder stopper? I haven't seen one in ages?

Hi, im thinking of putting braided brake lines on my R32 gtst. Does anyone know if the Nismo ones have ADR approval (they're about $180 for front and rear on Greenline). Otherwise a guy on Ebay (Brakewest) does ADR approved front and rear GTR ones for $250. Does anyone know if GTR lines would fit up to a gtst without modification? Just jap do HPI ones for $350 which i thought was a bit exxy.

Also, ill get a master cylinder stopper thing off Greenline as well; theyre about $108 + postage i think.

Any advice or info would be appreciated.

i got a master cylinder stopper off ebay, yes i know its cheap and nasty but for what it is, i rekon its good

cost less than $70 delivered

bolts into already threaded holes and has a cap sort of thing that goes in between the bolt and the master cylinder so it doesn't damage the master cylinder

i also think cusco strut braces have one of these built in if i recall correctly

I dont think the nismo ones would be approved.

From memory to be ADR approved they need:

1.Plastic coating

2.Little caps on the end where the line meets the fittings to stop the line from kinking

3.Details related to the manufacture of the line which i cant clearly remember but include stuff like the reference number of the machine they were made on and 2 other things.

I'd be more than happy to use them, its just that i dont want to be defected.

yeah it's possible. but then again even if you had the ADR lines you could still be defected if the officer wanted to.

personally I wouldn't worry too much about it. they are very high quality and should be perfectly safe and I believe in design they would meet the ADR standards it's just that they have never been submitted for testing since nismo don't sell them here.

up to you, but I'd save the extra dough and go with the nismo's.

IMO: unless your using is as a weekend track car.. or drive like an absolute maniac.. there isnt much point..

just get a master cylinder stopper.. it will give much better pedal feel.. less flex.. and ALOT less effort..

I have Nismo braided lines and a Cusco master cylinder stopper on an R33 GTR and the pedal is awsome.I can get the abs to start pulsing very easily(ie wheels starting to lock up) whereas before only standing on the pedal very hard bought on the abs.well worth the money.The quality and fitting of the Nismo lines are top notch.Cusco parts are also top notch.
