Hi Guys,

Took the plunge and got the falken 452's put on my rear today. 265/35/18, same dimension as the 451's i had worn and got taken off.

WELLLLLLLLL.... drive away, then noticed on my way home the rear is scraping, i think the rear right, when i turn. Especially turning left. I think. The sidewall of these new 452's is definitely alot straigher, as in more vertical... the 451's sidewall leaned inwards alot more to the tred point. But i got no idea where they are scraping?!?

I called the guys who put them on and they said to come back tomorrow to roll the guards. What is this exactly? Anyone got a pic to show me? If that doesnt work, i guess i will have to pull them off and sell them and order in 255's. Bit worried i'll have the same problem on the fronts aswell cos they will need replacing soon... maybe i should get them rolled, whatever it is, at the same time.

Thoughts?

Rolling the guards is just flaring them out a bit... looks nice if done right... make sure they don't roll to much an crack the paint...

stay with them when they roll the guards, and make sure they warm the paint a bit first....if they do it cold they can crack the paint where they roll it and it ends up looking terrible.

I had mine done years ago, when done carefully they come up perfect

they will just warm it lightly with a heat gun, once the guard is warm to the touch it is ready to go. and they should do the rolling in a few turns not try and do it in one go.

if they dont want to warm it first either run get them to pay for the respray or run for the hills

Ok guys went there this morning and yeah they think its hitting the guards the the tyre is also rubbing against that circular bit of the shocky that the spring sits on!! I told them nah too much wrong, order in the 255's. Hopefully they provide clearance all around.... bloody falken, my previous 265's were fine!

Messgae to anyone getting falken 452... if get 1 size lower than you previously had with other tyres. I had 451's 265/35/18 rear.... in 452's they are too big cos the side walls are different. Have had to order in 255/35/18.... will get them on this arvo see how they go.

Will probably have to get 225's on the front instead of 235's aswell!

I have some of these ordered aswell. Am actually going bigger, had 275/35/18 and 235/40/18 Toyo's am going to 295/30/18 and 245/35/18. This will give me the nearly the same overall dia (about 5-10mm less) as the factory fitted 225/45/17. The 275/35/18's where about 15-20mm over, thru the speedo out to far.

Had tyres fitted today, beautiful. I think these have alot rounder sidewall, alot rounder than the Toyos that I had which are very square. Still have good clearance.

Hell yeah they look good mate. :domokun:

    • You'd want to cap off the re-entry back into the dump too. Just something flat that can be held on by the Vband.
    • Thanks for the recap Matt Z. It was a great day out and I know you have said it already, but we couldn’t have done it without the volunteers.
    • Couldn't agree anymore, massive thanks to all that came by, helped out, or those who just wanted to talk cars. You are the community that make this such a great car club. cant wait for what we have planned for the future
    • Looking at the photos, you could easily just drop this pipe and dump into atmosphere  Just 1 or 2 quick hits for data acquisition - if have a heat shield material and/or sheet metal, maybe just use wire/metal cable ties and attach it in a way to deflect heat from melting nearby wires.
