How To Check Coilovers

I have HKS coilovers in my car, but don't know the model, whether it is dampening adjustable, camber adj, whether it has poillow tops.

Where can i go to check which of these it does have, and what brand these are?

Also, can you "service" coilovers rather than sourcing new ones?

How much does this cost?

And it has these turning knobs above the rear parcel shelf. What the hell are these???

I only had springs in my old car...so new to coilovers.

usually dampening force is adjustable via turning pegs on the tops of coilovers. somethimes they are marked with lines and numbers. if you see something like this then they are probably adjustable for dampening force.

yeah... this knob u talkign about is ur damper adjustment. Click them all to zero (anti-clockwise) then click them all to say 10 and make sure they even or will ride like crap.

As for camber/pillowball tops. Camber tops are only available in Macpherson strut desings. Skyline does not have this (silvias do). You probably do however have pillowball tops (metal tops) Look under your bonnet at your coilovers.. or through the parcel shelf and there should be metal around that "knob" its probably purple/pink if its HKS. If you have this metal then congradulations u have pillowball tops. Realy only advantage of these are its a bit stiffer then the standard rubber/plastic tops.

Also if you jack your car up and take your wheel off and look at ur coilovers you will see a seat below the ring.. it is two seats holding the spring up. If you dont have any "C" Spanners then get a screwdriver and hammer and u can loosen them by turning them and adjust the height of the car. But make sure you clean all the threads befor you go doing this or they will seize up and get stuck.

As for servicing coilovers yes, yes you can have them serviced and it is approx $100-$150 each. Only do it if needed

bought my car prob 10 months ago and have always thought the coilovers are too loud....always wanted the to be checked out, can say pedders or beaurepairs look at them to check they are still safe?

always thinking im gonna loose a wheel or something....

Slight correction, pillowball tops are not refering to the strut top itself being metal, I havn't seen one that isn't metal yet...

If it referring to the fact that they use a spherical bearing/rose joint/pillow ball to locate the shock shaft to the strut top. For a street car, they provide lots of NVH and wear out quickly, then begin to knock once they start wearing out.

like a shitbox with long gone suspension?

Cause mine clunks and rattles alot

Clunking sounds is a sign ur coilovers are way past its used by date. They are probably leaking. You can either get them reconditioned (https://www.shockreco.com) or buy new ones.

servicing = replacing struts, seals, regas etc... = rebuild. Costs around $150 per corner approximately from TSR in Brisbane.

$600 is cheaper than $1600+ so i guess i'll get them serviced

only if they guarantee no more clunking :P

does anyone know where car I get my Tein HR coilovers servicing or rebuild? i'm on the Coast NSW and dont have stock suspension ! do i need my car to put on stands when I do servicing or rebuild?

I was talking to EastCoastSuspension.

And they said they can't service my coilovers (HKS) as it's imported...

Anyone know who can service HKS?

And as for u subie, i think fulcrum can service yours.
