Car has weird noises coming from the clutch.

I think it's the clutch because it starts making these noises.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal?

I have a brass button clutch in the car (apparently...dealer said so -.-;:(

WHen i turn on the ignition, you can hear a high pitched noise. (When the gear is not engaged)

When i had this car inspected, the inspector also said that this is normal for a car with an aftermarket clutch.

Fair enough, seemed ok because when i depress the clutch u can hear it more, but once the gear is engaged, you can't hear anything.

2 days ago, while i was driving, i could hear the whining/ or high pitched metallic noise.

It was like that for awhile....and then went away.

It's on and off.

Is it just the characteristics of the clutch?

Or should i go and get it checked out?

How long does it take to get the clutch checked out?

Any other problems it could be if it is a problem?

went to CRD and NRG today./

CRD did an awesome job...fixed up the boost controller so it feels like a turbo car now.

Anyway, they said that it could be a clutch bearing...and while they look at it i may as wlel get a new clutch...

FACK

NRG said it was the release bearing in the clutch and that the flywheel sounds like it is just steel grinding.

How much is it for a flywheel and a clutch kit? (pressure plate etc etc)

try sponsors... i dont know if any on here sell them but i think on www.nissansilvia.com there is a sponsor who sells exedy kits.

I too would assume it is your throwout bearing (clutch bearing or whatever). If you wanna replace your clutch and all while your at it might as well get a clutch, flywheel and quick release throwout bearing in a kit so they all work in conjunction with eachother. Either way id factor about $1500 parts n labour.

good luck

How about just for parts?

I will prolly get a HD clutch or something. Labor should be free as it is under warranty.

They will change it...but i might pay extra to get a decent kit fitted

if it was throw out bearing you would hear it making the whiney rattly noise whilst in neutral and when you put a slight amount of pressure on the clutch pedal it should go away.

the noise appears when i start the car.

In neutral no sound.

When i step on the clutch i hear the noises...

And sometimes i can hear it whilst driving...

update*

car now stalls when i start driving off (when i start my engine) unless i give it gas straight away.

And it keeps making shrieking? bell like noises every time i engage the clutch.

I'm thinking mayb clutch bearings and flywheel? Cause there is a grinding noise as well.

Mine does the same thing. When I leave it idling in neutral (ofcourse) I hear the high pitch sound. When I press the clutch it, it goes away. Doesnt have to be in gear. I only hear it when my foot is off the clutch in neutral. Dont know if its aftermarket clutch. Could it be??

Sorry for digging this thread up. I've had this sound in my gbox clutch for over a year. Basically a whiney noise in idle when clutch is off. So this is the clutch release bearing on its way out? Noise is also there when accelerating in gear, but not when coasting. Have had the car like this for over a year and the car still drives fine. Had the pedal box snap, but was rewelded on correctly. Just wondering what can happen when the clutch release bearing fails? As I've had the car for 20000kms and it hasn't been an issue until I found this out. Car already has a brass button clutch in it.

almost certainly the thrust/release bearing, they wear (or at least get noisey) pretty quickly. Easy to change when you do the clutch - but apart from the sound don't worry - I've never heard of one failing

Yours sounds like a spigot! Thats what mine is doing at the moment, its on stock clutch though.

Will soon be gone, as I am replacing it with a 5 PUK Brass button.

If your foot is off the clutch and your car is idle in neutral and you hear a noise, whining noise thats your spigot bearing.

If your foots on the clutch, in/out of gear and your hearing a whining noise thats your thrust/release bearing.
