The size of the double din.

Recommended Posts

G'day guys.

Just a question about the amount of space available in the double din area on an r33 dash. I think that roughly a din is about 7" x 6" x 2" in size so would that make the amount of space available in the double section 7" x 6" x 2"? Or is there extra space at the back or around the sides?

In other words does anyone know exactly/roughly how much space is available in the double din section below the A/C controls?

Cheers!

I always thought that 'DIN' and 'Double DIN' refered to the size of the opening, not the depth or volume of the hole/area. So its about the size/area of the face plate, the verticle plane of what you can see.

Could be wrong though....

surreal,

you are probably right mate. I was just using the word din to explain it... as there is no normal standard for depth.

But, I am still interested to know if anyone does know roughly/exact how much depth there is to the din slots in an r33... like how far back does it actually go and how much can i fit in there?

Any ideas?

I have a couple of RCA plugs hanging off the back of my head unit plus a coil of cable plus the all the standard wiring running around back there plus there is still room to move. Don't really have any measurements but it not exactly squishy back there....

Its a little hard to explain. Its a bit of custom electronics work that would need to be mounted inside say a stainless steel case or something of the like. I am trying to gauage how much room roughly I would have to play with and whether it would all fit.

Is that ~40mm extra on top of say 6 inches or so for a head deck? Just trying to make sure.

I just pulled out my dash tonite! theres about 220mm from the face of the dash to the wiring and crap at the back - but i have a head unit in the space above but it looks to be clear behind there too...
