Ghetto modification is based on:

1 x Cordless drill

1 x Angle grinder and 1 x big f***k off disk

1 x big hammer

1 x crowbar

374m of electrical tape

867 x cable ties

Calipars will fit without any problems..

make sure you bleed the brakes after playing around with them to ensure there isnt any air in the system

I still think unless your doing trackwork or full song through twisties a pair of awesome brake pads should be sufficient for street driving.. especially if you have ABS

well i thought the idea to have more power was to do track work? i mean what good is 300HP when at the end of the day you're doing 100km/hr, same as the 50HP barina beside you on the freeway.

Lol that is funny, but also true, nah i'd like to update the brakes as well, i mean i have the parts sitting in my garage so why not?

How do i know if the braking system is ABS is there an easy way to tell?

I found out the my diff ratio is lower than a normal gts-t so i have alot of acceleration of the mark which is great. I would like to do a bit of track work, hillc climbs, circuit races and the odd run down the 1/4! So i think brakes should be done?

The calipars will fit in the DBA rotors without a problem.. just ensure that the with is the same on each..

then bobs your uncle.. well.. i dunno.. do you have an uncle called bob?

I would definately get DBA's if your planning on doing all of the things you want to do.. id suggest even get a set of slotted and drilled ones as an upgrade.. save you from buying them later and spending money now on stocko ones..

but thats just me.. :P

You could lay off going full throttle for a while till you save the money and buy them..

*sigh*.. damn uni.. Im stuggling to see if I can find the funds to do my 3L bottom end..

that is both weird and creepy about the uncle.

slotted dba/rda's are cheap as chips - you're only looking a few bucks more than the standard replacements (better again if you've got club sponsorship or group buy).

more than sufficient for any sort of mild application.

haha nice we all @ uni? crazy wat uni's we @? i''m @ griffith doing psychology, just finished my first year so i cheering. I fitted a new alternator today it stopped my squeeling problem (look in my topics) however it off another rb25de will this matter? everything seems to be going ok? tighened all the belts and everything better than they already were took it to pick up the miss's and she drove beautifully, problem solved! was fun lil job to do as well. As for the brakes going to get them a freshen up tomorow (The calipers anyway!) laterz...

Yeah.. As Eug said.. I really do thing slotted are the way to go.. its worth the extra ~$100.. even if you do have to wait till next pay cheak..

haha yeah i'd like to do it - but it'd have to be a project for a race car or something. as much as i like the RB motors, they are getting way too dated to keep up with all the new tech. i'd have to sink $10K to be happy with it.

what you can look for in the brakes:

- inspect rubber seals, no cracks etc. depends on how long they've been sitting around

- check for rust, pistons moving freely, nothing seized.

- make sure you have all the necessary pins and backing plates

- banjo bolts and nipples in good order

- make sure the calipers themselves have a good flush of fluid and aren't leaking

If you need new lines.. do it.. plus its a sexy brake pedal feel afterwards.. definately worth it mate..

Excellent, i looked @ the details on it and realised it's a sunday great! i work usually from 8am-4pm whats the odds it had to be on a sunday i'll, do my best i suppose! really could like to meet some of you, also wanted to see how my car would go in the show-n-shine hehe

Hey guys i know there is another thread open by PVA_glue about braking issues however since this is about my car, thought i'd keep it in my section, i have the gts-t front rotors drilled to 5-stud and the gts-t calipers. I don't have all the money in the world right now but i really would like to fit these breaks onto my car.

1. will the calipers (gts-t) fit on the GTS rotors? are the rotors too small in diameteR?

2. is it cheaper/better for my to just by blank DBA rotors drilled to 4stud, or redrill the 5-stud ones to suit 4 stud.

2. or should i do the whole thing (conversion) eg buy new hubs etc, this way i already have the rotors etc...

just something to keep the mind going....

    • Got the motor out and torn down. I'll be dropping off the block Monday. Luckily the scoring on Cyl6 is much less pronounced then the pictures made it out to seem. It can barely be felt. If you pass your finger over it 10x you'll barely notice it. Hopefully by some chance it will only require a honing. I'm not in the mood to buy one size larger pistons or another block. Oddly enough my 6th cylinder with the scoring has extremely clean intake valves compared to my other 5 cylinders. I'm worried the scoring was caused by too much fuel or Water/Methanol washing the cylinder. I'll review some old logs to confirm.  This was also the first time I pull an engine with the transmission still attached. It went much better then expected. I was worried my CD009 wouldn't make it easy due to its sheer size but it was much easier this way. 
    • From the pictures I have when doing the job the flywheel is the same diameter, I don't think they're playing weird tricks like putting weights at the outer diameter to increase flywheel inertia or anything like that. The OEM flywheel is definitely heavier, but it's not a huge difference. Quoted weight savings of the clutch is 2 kg so I can't imagine the flywheel being lighter than ~7 kg. Kind of regret not weighing it before the clutch went into the car but as far as driveability goes I have no complaints.
    • HKS trigger kit should be very easy to integrate with a Link. It's a 36-2 crank trigger. Hard part is finding the motivation to take off the timing belt and everything on the front of the engine to install it. You also need to cut out a hole in the oil pump housing so the sensor can read the trigger wheel. Changing out the cam sensor for a 24 tooth setup is probably good enough but as others have mentioned depending on what underlying assumptions are changed it becomes more of a problem. Reading the crank state off of the cam is an abstraction that works in the general case, but if you have an edge case it makes less and less sense. There is a GTX2860 gen 2 that can take a compact 5 bolt housing so it's direct bolt on but I'm not 100% sure of what's involved. Peak compressor efficiency drops off a bit on these turbos vs -5s, 77% vs 73% but you get way, way wider region of operation. The -5s have a really strange surge line in their compressor map that is all over the place. If you think the hot side on the -5s aren't open enough you can try the Tomei T550B turbos which a local tuner seems to be happy with:
