My Green 33 N/a - Now Rb25det Conversion

hmmm EUG for moderator!! awsome! so u recommend just going to local brake specialist and having the rotors re-drilled? is this legal..& is it safe??

legal - nope, technically anything you do to the car outside from factory is illegal.

will you get away with it? most probably, unless you take the rims off you wont know that they've been re-drilled.

unless you have a cluey officer (which are far and few between) who notices 4 studs and turbo brakes.

ahh ok, so all turbo cars have 5-stud hubs? ahh i learnt something today (again from EUG) :sorcerer: but seriously wat officer is going to have the rims taken off to check for the stud type? i mean would this be sufficent for a short term fix?

So i should take the rotors down to a brake specialist and have them drilled to 4-stud then, are they easy to fit? like all i have to do is:

- jack up the car

- take off the wheels

- undo the bolts behind the calipers

- remove the calipers (and the pads within)

- 2 x bolts into the hubs pull them off

- remove the rotors

- put new re-drilled rotors on

- put hubs back on

..then i need to figure out how to change the calipers over....

well you only need to look to see the stud type, you however would need to take the rims off to see if the rotors had been re-drilled.

all turbo skylines have 5 stud hubs correct, the only exception to NA is the R34.

it's more than sufficient for a short term fix, i run this setup for track work!

any dude with a bench drill can do it, best to get a brake guy to do it as a precaution as they would do this kinda stuff everyday.

what you have outlined is correct. you may need to massage the dust plates back to accomodate for a thicker rotor, i know i did. depends on what rotors you use, not a hard job. a hammer/mallat does the trick.

the new calipers will bolt up to the existing caliper mounts. double check the banjo bolts are the same, you might be able to get away with hybridizing the brake lines to the new calipers. i didn't go down this path as i went for braided lines.

another thing to remember is to have plenty of brake fluid, brake bleed kit, new pads for the new calipers and some time and patience.

hey man, thank-you for ur quick replies really makes life easy, i just took off my rim then and had a look, i think actually that the gtst caliper will fit onto the GTS rotor, however since i have the gts-t rotors, why not use them? they are bigger?

sorry for all the questions but wat is hybridizing the brake lines mean? :)

I think the pads on the calipers are still pretty good (good condition) however i'll post a few pics up just to show you.

lucky for me i do have time and patients but it sucks when i using the car as a daily driver... a brake bleed kit, can i just pick one of these up from an auto store? :)

it will fit, but the gtst rotor is much larger in diameter and you wont end up using the entire surface of the brake pad.

hybridizing means mix and match, use NA brake lines with turbo calipers.

you can pick up a bleed kit from supercheap auto/repco

Hey there guys, been a while since i have posted up updates on the green monster lol :ermm: as previously dicussed i am doing the brake upgrade on my GTS turbo converted skyline to keep the car firstly, safe and secondly legal (good to see prioities are correct haha). I was going to re-drill the rotors to 4 stud however, i met a really great member on here who has helped me out a lot (thanks ben) i stripped some parts off his front cut and now i have 5-stud hubs n all, so it going to be a bolt on, bolt off affair, or so i think, just remove the old 4-stud + arms etc, remove caliper and bolt on the new 5-stud hubs with arms slip on the new rotors and attach the gts-t NISSAN brake callipers.. :D i cleaned up the new items today theres a few pics of them in my shed on parts shelf ready to go. i'll just be doing up the calipers ready to go. Oh n the other pic (with dog) is just from earlier this week when drove the car up to hervey bay, just took a pic with the miss's, brother's dog josh!

anything i should be looking out for when doing the whole process?? :D

i will need to buy a brake bleed kit, but will i need a spring compressor as well?

hey guys it has been a while sinbce i have been on SAU (hope ya all missed me) i went to hervey bay fopr christmas then to melbourne for three weeks and well i still here now, i get back on the 15th. just thought i'd touch base, i got some good little christmas presents for the car including stands ramps and an air compressor! so i cheering. Anyhow i have fully reconditioned one of the break calipers now i up to doing the 2nd one when i get back home. i cant wait to get back home to QLD to do my break conversion it'll make the car much better as the faster you go, you need to stop just as quick. anhow will keep you all updated. cheers, hame

Hey, I'm back! got back on the 15th! Missed the car a heap, took it for a drive to victoria point yesterday, loved it! I been working on the brakes since i been back trying to recondition the calipers. I've done well so far using wet n dry and other tools. Should i have them sand blasted? i also am getting the gtst rotors machined to stop warping when used. here is some pictures of the progress.

Began painting the calipers today i am using dulpicolour metalcast MC 202 which is a gold colour however it is not turning out the way i expected it too which is really annoyed me. i was told not to use a primer, and the results look like the paint is not thick enough. i used a full 311g can on the front two calipers and here is how it came out. should i let it dry over the next 24 hours and then maybe get another can?

Well it been a long time since i have added to my thread on the car, i have since the last post, tried installing the brakes, i have them fully reconditioned and ready to go i had the rotors drilled and machined and fitted averything up to find that my stupid rims did not clear the gts-t caliper set-up!! So wasn't to happy about it! they looked so nice on the car, gold with gloss finish and chrome nissan to compliment the chrome rims with gold studs anyhow, i removed the calipers and went back to the N/A brakes for now. So out of the whole experience i learned alot about brakes and the car got a brake fluid flush and topped up with Castrol Super Responce dot 4 which btw is good fluid!! Also i have installed a boost gauge into the drivers side air-con vent as i still have the N/A cluster and therefore no stock boost gauge. My car is running 5-6 PSI. Keep you all updated. Hame

You're right, my NA won't win as many drags, but it'll still pull as many chicks.

fixed my speedo problem, i just put a gts-t speedo in! so if anyone needs or wants this done pm me! also have installed JJR boost controller. will post some engine bay pics up when i get to it!

NA's arnt quick in a steight line..

But I find through the twisties.. as long as there arnt too many straights.. I can quite comfortable keep up to cars with much higher powers..

just cos its NA.. doesn't mean it cant be fast where it counts.. :D

Dunno what every1 else is on about, I love the colour! Literally. Maybe even brighter though, I can see my 33 in the new holden SS grean. The bright lime green one. haha.

thanks jack i think the colour is very OUT there but i have grown towards it! just bought a greddy style front facing plenum for the car which i should be fitting up soon so i hope!

Ahh thanks Eug man! now i can add more of the build process i have gone through!

From the last post there the car has recieved a fair bit of new gear inside and out including:

Interior - Nismo pedals

- Nismo Gear knob

- Nismo seat cover

- Apexi auto timer with HKS harness

- Racetech mechanical boost gauge with speco cup

Engine - KKR480 turb0 ( tute can be seen here - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/To...58#entry4067458 )

- Nismo front pipe

- Intake cooler piping made up from stock r32 items

The engine will also be getting a big tidy up and i'll be putting on a greddy plenumn and getting a power fc (when i can find one!)

I'll post up some more pics and information when i can. Right now car is in my garage with the original intake manifold off whilst i clean her up a little! :)
