need help, problem with temp guage

just put an rb25det in my r31 and the temp gauge is not reading the temp so was told to test the gauge by earthing the temp senser and i did and the guage works so i went out to get a new temp senser and could only get a rb30 one but was told by the dude that worked on my car that i could use any temp senser from any rb engine but still does not work and i am worried about overheating my engine and not knowing about it, can anyone give me some advise?

When the RB20det went in mine the RB30e temp sender went it and if you follow the wire coming off it (I think blue) to the plugs near the ECU join it to the R31 10 pin plug thats under the dash.

It sounds more like your temp sender is not earthed properly

Did you use thred tape when fitting the sender that can cause problems.

Also test the sender with heat and an ohm meter. the resistance changes with temp change.

Are you sure that you the shell (metle case) of the sender is getting good earth? use a bit of wire to the battery neg terminal and with the car hot touch it to the side of the sensor (ing needs to be on.).
