haha well ill see how i go then, last time i touched the brakes was when it was freshly imported which was over 1 and a half years now, and tires have shit traction being old, i think ones got a puncture too haha

i think ill take it easy on everything as i just dont think its ready for much stress yet lol

You just have to have a bit more common sense than me and back off when you feel tyres start to go greasy or feel brake fade coming on.

I wasn't that smart and came home with brake pads looking like this

The cheapest 'possibly' suitable are Bendix Ultimates.

I bought a set a while back and they cost me ~$100 for fronts and a little cheaper for the rear. Or was it vice versa. :S

Either way, shop around some charge like a wounded bull. I think I got the pads from Motormates.

Salad, Are ultimates suitable? How did yours mates ultimates hold up?

The pads I've got in right now are TRW Lucas. Available from ABS, the fronts cost me $55, going to get some rears soon as the Bendix HD in there now probably wont last...

I've been told they are used by a few Saloon Cup cars so they stand up to the heat alright. I'll be able to tell you exactly how they do after Saturday though :)

Just going by feel on the street though, they are miles ahead of the Bendix HD, so I'm quite interested to see how they fare with proper hard driving.

My friend's Bendix Ulitmates seemed OK, he didn't have the problem of them falling to pieces like my HDs, but his car is a full stripped out track car, so a good 100kg lighter or so. Not too sure what the go is, other people have used them on the track and they've just crumbled after a few laps.

The whole mentality of myself buying them was "$55!?!?!?! How can I lose!?" :)

Only time will tell now, I'm tossing up whether or not to chuck new rear pads in tomorrow or not... There's a fair bit of meat left in the Bendix but they wore down really quick last time. Maybe I'll just toss a coin :)

Gates at 8, driving starts at 10, be there before then to make sure you have enough time to sign on and get ready if you need to do anything else.

Would anyone going like to meet on the way? Say at the Caltex on Pt Wakefield?

Good fun day :D Few skylines out there too, mostly in the 1day licence group.

Managed a best lap of 1.24.1, Oh so close to my goal of getting into the 23s. Probably could've done it with another session, but pads were getting low and so was fuel, didn't want to chance it.

The Lucas pads are OK, the pads themselves didn't seem to fade heaps, but it was noticable after 5 or 6 laps, but no where near the fade of the Bendix HDs. I think most of my fade problems were because of the fluid, felt like there was a bit of air in there. They held together, but they have worn down a fair amount now, about 1mm till the indicator thing and they were pretty much brand new when I went out. But for $55, you cant really complain

Now the rest of you, get out there soon! :P

Oh, and bring a jerry can of spare petrol  I used about 2/3s of a tank in ~25laps (3x15min sessions), with only around 180rwkw, so you guys with big power should guzzle a fair bit...

haha fun day, brakes died straight away and left me with barely any braking coming into the corners, tires were terrible and understeer was shocking, then boost controller got a hole in the tubing which meant i couldnt hold the throttle open other wise it would boost 15+psi, then rear tires went and meant the last session was just me sliding everywhere.

but it was fun and pretty happy with how the suspension and engine held up, now just to replace: tires, brake pads, clutch and diff.

haha showza apparently recorded one of my lap and he says it was 1:40 or soemthing which sounds about right. that was the 2nd session where i was half throttle on the straights to stay behind a corrolla as i was trying to get used to having no brakes. later on i was going full throttle down the straights and also got used to the track but still had to back off REALLY early to give my brakes a rest so the time wouldnt have been affected heaps.

for the first 2 laps as long as i didnt push it too hard i had better grip, but u could see as the tires and brakes just deteriorated the guys in front would just start leaving me for dead so i would be really interested to see how i go with some good brake pads and semi slicks.

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
    • Thanks for taking the time to post that ! If anything changes or happens please do update us.
    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
