Hello all,

I recently got myself an N/A 1999 Nissan Skyline r34 25GT 4-DOOR sedan Tiptronic transmission, completely stock. I'm fully new to skylines and know not much about cars lol, so wonderin if any of you's could help me out:

Question 1: Is it normal for the car to jerk when you change the transmission from say Reverse to Drive (like the car gets a push, feels like a jerk)

Question 2: My fuel guage is incredibly innacurate (after I fill up, it shows as "full" even after like 70kms!)

Question 3: Is it ok to use normal ULP, if not... what exactly would happen?

Hope someone can help!

P.S. i've attached some pix of it if you're interested

nice, got a clean car there.

Q1/ ensure the car is completely stationary when you change gears; i.e. reverse out of driveway, ensure car is completely stationary, foot solidly on the brakes, shift slowly but smoothly into drive, release the brake and onto the accelerator. give that a go and let us know.

Q2/ 70kms is fine, normally it's accounting for the fuel in the pipe from the filler cap to the tank.

Q3/ i wouldn't recommend it as i believe the lowest octane rating in japan is 98ron. you will get increase of knock and possibly pinging (more prevalent on turbo cars) on an n/a you might get away with it. to give you an idea i had to fill my car with unleaded once, because that's all the petrol station had - and my safc2 read knocks up to 46, as soon as i found a servo with premium i put it in straight away and once empty, i filled it up again with premium and i get knocks in and around 15-25'ish, this is of course due to the fact that my car is tuned for premium unleaded fuel. if you wanted a car to run cheaply on fuel, you wouldn't have gotten a skyline in the first place.

hope that helps

lol thanks to all, and EUG about your solution to question 1, i actually do always change it while fully stationary and in fact it gives less jerk when the car is still slightly in motion. it sorta feels as if the car is readying itself to pwn some ass lol. and lol ok 98ron it is, what's with hillzy telling me differently!

    • Yeah, the thread is only nearly 20 years old.
    • Been down in Tassie for 2 weeks (a cruise, not a race for once) but spent a little time on her when I got back. I worked out the injector settings in the PowerFC were not correct for nismo 555s, set those to 66% +10ms and added a little air at closed throttle, set the timing (approximately, because it has some weird non 15o cells around idle) and now she starts and idles properly. She purrs like a kitten (ignore the co2 alarm in the background, I did  ) 20250518_171052.mp4 Next step, off for run-in, tuning and alignment!
    • Went to a drift practice day at a local circuit (held on the reserve parking area behind the grandstand) for the first time in about 15 years. Some kei cars were drifting as well, a not so surprising Suzuki Carry truck, and two 1st gen Daihatsu Copens that were converted to rear wheel drive(!) using Daihatsu Boon X4 transfer case, prop shaft and rear diff, obviously omitting the front driveshafts. They looked really fun to slide. I heard that they cost "about half" as much as a Nissan Silvia etc to run.  On the track 'Tech M' a local BMW tuning garage had a customer track day. Mainly recent models but there was one E36 which looked ancient among all the current models. It was cool watching the drifting and then turning around and seeing random people thrashing their M3/4s  central-circuit-drift-practice-2025-05-18-long-yt.mp4
    • I prefer it with those wheels (sacrilege?) 馃構 Here's a photo of a fully original one for reference. The price is $350K....
    • I would like to keep it around 15k but if I need more to make it reliable and not have to worry about the car breaking I can go more. It's my project car so I'm just trying g to figure out what needs to be in it i know basic things like turbo cams injectors I'm just unsure of the size and the specifics so I'm spending alot of time on Google and its mostly rb25 and rb26 not alot on neo
