There was no dipstick when Mitchy bought the motor, that is why he got the compression test and leak down test done!

NO explaination because you've never asked, and we don't know why either... only that it was built by Ray Ferrari (look him up and ask him yourself)

Mitchy does know what compression his motor possessed...as said earlier, he got it done because he had no dipstick.

This may sound odd, but if I bought a motor with no dipstick (like mitchy) then I would replace the dipstick, not do a compression test. It's like saying my car had a no radiator cap so I got the boot lid tested for paint thickness...

perhaps if ol' mitchy had just replaced the dipstick when he bought the motor (which would have been the smart thing to do) none of this episode would ever have happend.

4.5L oil sounds low.

mine gobbles around 4.8L , more soon when the Grex oil filter relocater is fitted.

get a dipstick fitted !! surely wont be expensive. dont delay. compression tests are cheap, all up (test and fit) what a $300 job tops?

oh, and its pretty farkn easy to see if a turbo has been installed properly or not (ie no copper washers etc), visually and by feel, plus the turbo oil feed pisses out oil straight away and can be easily heard, engine sounds all "liquidy" (been there done that with my highflow, one bolt wasnt quite tight enough and out came some of the engine oil).

my advice - get a new mechanic! definately.

nah man, buyer beware. pretty easy to visually "see" if there is a dipstick. how can you NOT notice ?

I got an rb25det off a mate for a conversion into an s13 and the dipstick is on the wrong end of the block.... its on the rear of the block and the other hole where the dipstick used to be just has a bit of bolt in it. When i put the dipstick in it just hits the sump.... a bit stupid IMO.

well that would depend on what the motor came out off

if the 25det was in a 240z then thats where it needs to be - as they are rear sumped when the conversion is done.

funny old thread to resurrect
