anyone here had any experiance with painting mag wheels?

i have sparco 17 x 9's and was thinking bout changing them from black/red to matt gold/platinum...

is it expensive?

worth it?

If your a hot4's reader, they did an article on this about a year ago...

Looked fairly easy.... just sand, prime, paint and finish...

(but it all looks easy in a mag)

good luck

ive heard that brake dust can get infused with the rims if powder coated...

and if u paint them urself, then wen u get lil' stone chips and stuff they can look a bit dodgy cause the colour beneath will show up.

My mate purchased an s15, and the tards who owned it b4 him painted the 17" BBS wheels black. now the paint is flaking off and they look shit.

id look at powder coating them...and ask about the brake dust issue..

I had 17inch wheels on my commodore that were repainted they turned out just like knew... people make the mistake of getting there wheels painted in acrylic (mind you if plenty of clear coat will work), if done in a 2pac they will last. At bodyworks it would cost about $70 - $80 a rim, but if your experienced you can do it yourself... just remember when using 2pac paint wear a decent respatory mask not a crappy dust mask as it is very very harsh on the lungs.

Get it done properly.

I had my current set of rims done by a smash repairer. They didn't strip them back to bare metal, and so they've flaked pretty badly.

My new set, I got painted properly. Sandblasted back, painted, and baked. They should be nice and durable.
