Just thinking of all the r32s I've seen and they seem to either be turbo with hicas and 5 stud or non-turbo, non-hicas,

4 stud.

I've never given this any thought until a couple of recent issues.

I want to get rid of hicas on my gtst and asked an engineering signatory his opinion on certifying the mod.

He said as far as he was concerned he wouldn't pass an unbranded hicas bar and would prefer I use all factory, non-hicas parts.

Also, my son's mate wants to do a 5 stud conversion to go with the rb20det swap in his gts.

If there is no factory non-hicas 5 stud what is required for a 4 stud to 5stud conversion?

Can the 5 stud hub be simply swapped into a 4stud upright?

yes u can buy new hubs. If you want goto a wrecker or if u feel like u want new parts goto www.justjap.com iirc they are $650 for 5 stud conversion hubs. Keep in mind u need new rims.

I think that if you only use factory parts and remove all traces of the hicas system you would never be called on to produce an engineering certificate so you could save that expense.

just so u know.. a s13 silvia has same subframe as r32 and they are usually non hicas

Lock the original rack up and be done with it. $2 worth of scrap 3mm plate steel, a half in drill bit (from memory) and a 1 inch hole saw to make up some washers to slip in on the end of the rack between the tie rod and the stop. With the boots on no one will know it's locked. You can even leave the rest of the hicas connected if you feel that way inclined, but you may as well strip it to save the weight.

The tie rods on hicas equiped cars offer more toe adjustment too. If you lower an s13 you will almost certainly need to find some aftermarket toe arms (which will also apply to a skyline non hicas subframe) and so you are back to square one with your engineer.

The just jap converter hubs are s13 specific (the other models listed have identical hubs), the front's will be useless on an r32 as they are a completely different design to the s13, rears are compatible.

s14 silvia.

differrent cradle, 2 bolt rear diff cover and large front hole in diff mounts. rear cover swap and some inserts will do the trick but the engineer might not like the inserts either :D

S14 cradle has better geometry than early cradles too. not sure how it will go in a skyline though. I am measuring up the differrences in R32 and R33 cradles geometry atm (if any).
