Hey guys, I installed some gauges into the triple gauge cluster of my R34 GT-T a few weeks back, finally got around to taking some proper pics for those interested in how it looks. I got the gauges off Ebay, they are Autogauge brand, smoke series (left to right water temp, oil temp and boost). They work really well and look so much better than the stock ones.

The installation wasnt that hard, took me a couple of hours all up. This is what I did for those who may want to try.

1. Remove aircon vents (simply use a flathead screwdriver to pop them out gently, no screws need to be undone).

(note: i didnt unplug the aircon, i just worked around it)

2. Remove screws holding in cluster and unplug the adaptor plug going into the back of the stock gauges.

3. As you will see, the stock unit is actually a single piece. I disassembled this unit and removed the gauge unit from its casing/holder

4. I retained the stock holder with the glass and mounted the three gauges within the original using some liquid nails and silicon to hold them in place. This was probably the hardest part as you have to be careful not to make a mess of everything.

5. I used a multimeter to figure out which of the wires going into the stock adaptor were for lights, ignition and ground and then cut said wires, splicing them together with their respective counterparts from the gauges.

6. I extended the green wires for the temperature senders (oil temp and water temp) and ran them down through the dash to the drivers side footwell along with some 4mm PVC tubing for the boost gauge which I got from Bunnings. I could not find a suitable firewall to get these through to the engine bay so I ran them around through the drivers side door (It actually doesnt look that bad, I covered them with electrical tape, not noticeable at all).

7. I tested and reassembled the unit and grounded the gauges to a bolt from the aircon. Make sure the gauges are aligned properly before putting everything back together!!

The finished product: (they look awesome at night...heaps better than the stock ones!)

I used 52mm gauges. I've seen this done with 60mm Saber gauges, there was an article in Hot 4s on how to do it, but they stick out of the cluster and require the openings to be cut back a little to fit. I opted for the 52mm gauges as I wanted to keep them behind the glass, looks more professional IMO.

Hey Suj, I was wondering did you use a sandwich plate in order to hook up the oil temp gauge

Slow reply but yes I did, purchased it from Just Jap, was about $30. You'll need a new oil filter as well though if you are going to do it. My advice would also be to attach the sensors and extend the wires to them before fitting the new filter/sandwich plate, makes things much much easier when hooking up the gauge

i did the same mod awhile back but used silver faced speco gauges and added a shift light, i also wanted to keep the gauges behind the factory glass.

Hi Suj, great job in the cluster there. However i am trying to fit a profec b into my r34 gtt at the moment, and have found the drivers door wire entry is a one piece plastic plug type arrangment just big enough to fit the hole in the chassis. im trying to find a way to get a vacuume/ boost line and electrical plug into the cabin and found this way has failed. did u open the hole up a little? any info would be appreciated.

Hey mate sorry for slow reply, been away for a bit.

I actually just ran my tubing through the drivers side door, e.g. not actually through the firewall as I couldn't find a way to get it through. I'll try to get a photo of what I mean soon.

Gauges were off ebay (Autogauge smoke series). Got them for $150 delivered for the three of them.

Just a note as some of you seem to have trouble getting through the firewall if you look down behind the fusebox there is a large grommet where the wiring goes out you can get your wires and boost pipes through these without too much trouble and it has a hole in the inner wing where you can get the wires throught to the engine bay

SUJ as per step number 1 when your reffering to removing the air con vents...how exactly do you do that and which part of the air con do you use a flat head screw driver on?? as im confused and not sure where to start...a photo or something would be great.
