hey guys just wondering which one i shud put my money on if my engine blows? :D

i here 1JZ's own rb26dett's in the fact that the jz internals are soo strong with any work done.

let me know your opinions :)

What car is it going in ? S13 ?

How much money you got ?

1JZ is a good engine but i wouldnt say it owns a 26...

For outright performance they don't "own" an RB26DETT, though they definitely don't embarrass themselves - what makes them a particularly good buy is how cheap they are (at least in NZ) compared to an RB26DETT. They are even quite a lot cheaper than RB25DETs, which they in some respects are a bit better than.

fark another HPI puppet.......

both have merits and drawbacks, that said after building the supra i like the 2j better than rb26, but the differerence is only cubic capacity. Im sure if i got to compare a decent rb30/26 i be back on the fence.

I would say if your engine blows don't put in a second hand motor at all. either rebuild the one you've got, or rebuild an RB26 or a 1JZ. putting in a used second hand motor is not always a recipe for long term happiness.

I'd personally take a 1JZ over a 26 if u wanted to modify it. I explored the avenues os 1JZ, 2JZ or RB25DET for my GTS-X. A manual 1JZ halfcut can be had for cheap but then the fabricating to fit it is about 4 times the cost of the 25 for me. Everything on the 1JZ is backwards compared to the 26 as u probably know. For me to buy a good 25DET and gearbox and everything needed to put it in was 3500..... roughly 1500-2000 so max 5500 to have it installed, wired and finished with new seals and timing belt, water pump etc. 1JZ was about 2500 for everything needed including the halfcut to sell what i didnt need to do the swap but in the end I was looking at 8000 minimum coz I'd need a modded exhaust, completely custom engine and gearbox mounts and crossmember etc, completely custom wire the loom, plenum is over the other side etc etc. If u have the cash and if I had the cash I would have gone 2JZ but the 25 for me was more affordable. I guess ur going to need custom gearbox and engine mounts for either engine so look into it. If your going to mod it a 1JZ or 2JZ would be best if you dont want to touch the inside.

toyota engines are generally stronger, but unmoddified, your unlikely to break either... you start modding, you better keep an eye on the 26... the 1 or 2J though, will be more reliable...

seen it happen all too often...

Go the 1J, just put one in my bro's Cressida, what a weapon, boost is just about instant even with the Auto, i was suitably impressed (well I would be considering I have the no torque RB20 to live with).

That's OK, he will boil the brake and clutch fluid shortly.

:D cheers :D
