car should be at QR inthe morning tomorrow!! for a bit of a shakedown, testing dry sump and breather setup, cooling system etc.

Awesome, i'll be out for sprints in the arvo so i'll make sure i get there nice and early to see your runs

Giant, sorry I could not come to QR early enough to see your car. How did you go? Is there any chance that you could post some pics of the lexan windows? I think I need give my skyline the Jenny Craig diet :)

hey guys

for an update!

went out saturday morning to do a test. did about 15 laps maybe 18? ( in 3 sets)

intial test! result excellent!!!

dry sump test - perfect

cooling system, oil and coolant- perfect

doors and windows didnt flap around

cage result - really feel the chassis stiffness

testing at about 85 percent on re55 hards, mark did a 1.17:5 on the national which beats our previous best of 1.17:9

very promising on soft semi's at 100percent should put us into the 1.16 bracket wven there werent other mods.

next to test is

ohlins coilovers (due this week)

4 inch side pipe  (already made)

different injectors (ready to go)

soft compound rubber (due now)

will keep you posted and some more pics soon.

cheers russ

p.s we did have an oil leak (helps to put the dipstick in or plug the tube/hole!!)

i was there and saw the 32 go round...it is damn fast and its not even finished yet. The japs wont know what hit them.

While russ and mark had a good run, we blew a turbo the same morning :) Seems a perishing rubber line that supplies oil somewhere had bits building up in the turbo oil feed, blocked the hole and ceased the turbo.

P.S I love the doors russ, so light. Im telling ya mate, full slicks. Try a few runs on a set, you will wet yourself with the amount of traction you will get over the hard semis.

Latest pics of my rally car from this weekend...

reardamage2pm0.jpg

7 fence posts at 130km/h

Damage report:

Bent right rear suspension, looks like just the lower rear suspension arm

The scratch (and small dent) on the rear guard

Missing fuel filler cap (somewhere in a padock)

Missing rear window (also spread across the paddock)

Squashed fuel tank - surprised it's not leaking actually

Bent wheel

Broken headlight

7 fence posts (One thrown 15m into the paddock where the glass and petrol cap are)

Bet you didn't lift off though?

Kept the foot in it the whole way, until it started heading for the bank, then I gave up and applied the brakes. Just needed more steering lock! Strong old things tho, once untangled I drove it out of the stage.

Hey screamin' - I found out last week the Dutton Rally is having a round in N.Z. next year. We are currently planning on getting over there for it. Hopefully we can see a few local based Skylines for the event as well.

BTW Russ - no round in QLD next year. So you guys will have to come to Vic (or N.Z.!)

ahh damn it!! means i dont get a cheaper round.

might have to come to vic to play!! :yucky:

They are stepping up the Dutton events next year Russ. Some of the stuff should be tops. :yucky:

Also - I've pretty much convinced Mossy to bring back the free entry for reigning champs so you should at least get free entry to NSW next year. :)

Good man!

Hey sounds good. Dutton is a tarmac rally similar to a Targa isn't it? We've only got a handfull of guys running Skylines in that spec here. Most guys with money run the GT3's.

    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in
    • Let's just fix the problem by f**king the rest of the gearbox.
    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
