Ahh ffs!

Why did you swap the gasket anyway?

We pulled the head off after Winton as it had a tiny oil leak coming from the top of the oil pump. When we pulled it off we found it to be from an unused bolt hole as it's a GTi-R pump. We tried using the same gasket again as it had only just gone in and there was water in the oil, so we got another one and now it's leaking again. Engine is out now and getting pulled down today to see what the go is. I'm just hoping it's not the sleeves, but the engine builders don't seem to think it will be.

So draining.

Shit Dane!!

Hopefully your luck will change soon mate! Sad to hear that you're still having a few minor issues with the set-up

I was sooooo hoping to see it at DECA yesterday.

Thanks Al. I was hoping to be there too mate, but no luck lately... :)

Gees Dane....you'd have to be one of the nicest guys on these forums and yet you have the worst luck. Hope its not too expensive!

And I just made the comment on NS.com after you posted your dyno sheet that I was glad to see you had the gremlins sorted. :P

it's one of those things with race or modified cars, you're in the hands of the people you trust, so hopefully those people do right. ;)

Indeed mate, just hoping I forget about all this once I've got it back as I'm pretty soured on the whole thing. Lucky I have the car in my posession at the moment though, it reminds me why I don't just strip the thing and sell it... I love it too much :(

Thanks Ian. I'm not planning on paying for it, I've already paid for a completed, running engine and have yet to receive one!

I was just wanting to test out the 285rwkw's before I decided what to do with my turbo kit but no such luck.... :(

Yeah Dane, rotten streak of luck you have. I thought I was the only one with that kinda luck?

I've always had some rotten car luck, I don't know what it is about me! I guess I should have realised the signs when I had two cars stolen in 3 months when I was 18 :D

So, it turns out the sleeves have dropped slightly in the cylinder causing the leak. Because the head was decked last time i was off, but the block was not decked with it there is a slight variance and apparently not uncommon when removing the head for the first time in a sleeved alloy block.

So the bores are getting a hone, and new rings are going in as well as bearing most likely. Any suggestions on rings? I was using CP rings with the CP pistons but have heard there may be better out there, but I may be limited due to the 90mm Piston size. Any suggestions welcomed :)

Dane, when I had my block sleeved they decked the sleeve to sit slightly proud of the block to compensate for any slight downward movement in the sleeve. So they deck the block first then instal the sleeves and then deck the sleeves to sit slightly proud of the block.

I used CP pistons and rings too however, I think someone on this forum mentioned that ACL rings had more tension against the bore wall which is better to minimise blowby. Still CP rings are widely used and seem to do the job.

Ahhhh ok, that's what may not have occurred, causing my issues.

Do you get much blow by? Mine blew the dipstick out on the dyno, hence why we were considering new rings. It may have been the slightly scored bore though. I'm just considering all options as I want it to stay together this time!

Looks nice mate.
