Yep, I did EC but it was pissing down with rain so I didn't get the full experience of going flat through turn 1. I was also a little nervous punting someone elses 100k plus car around a wet track with no experience there! It will be great to go to a track that I have at least some familiarity with, and in my own car worth a fair bit less than that.

Feel free to take it for a spin mate. You offered me one in yours, it's only fair to return the gesture :P

ps I'd happily punt any of your cars! Except the truck, that you can keep.

I figure why run the car in "slow" Targa spec all year in the hope of doing one event. I think it's easier to mod this car how I want it, and if I do decide another Targa is on the cards, just to buy an already setup Emo and sell it or put it in the rubbish bin after the event.
...its probably hard to justify having a car sitting in full targa spec thats not realy competitive on the track when you may use it once a year. plus for the cost of events like targa you can race a whole season of circuit.

and i especialy like the idea of buying emos to throw at the scenery.

lol. I have to upspec (significantly) if I want to be competitive at Targa! Not sure what category you want to race in....if you want more mods than Targa under CAMS race rules it will be sports sedans. They are idiots

Don't fall for that trick...he's never actually owned a skyline. He just posts and pretends.

" i know" its not a NISSAN but its the next best thing

bought this in 2004 - 911 C2 Turbo, i had it fully rebuilt for race

pics are from when it was a daily ,before it was raced

now that its gone im missing it !!!!!

power 260kw weighs 1200kgs = BAM !!!!

gorgeous car man... i woulda sold a kidney/child or 2 before parting company with that shape turbo in black

Yeah I don't mind either way Dunc..... CAMS and their categories have no real interest to me, they're just too far behind the times.

I really just want something a bit more exciting to drive. The way the car is now is rewards being smooth becasue of it's lack of power, but I want a little bit more "animal" in it

Oh, and I may as well say it, I wanna crack 56's at Lakeside on semis :)

fark your first session was in the wet at EC!! that must have been 'interesting'. Still if you kept in off the walls then you did bloody well. they are great chassis but anything that light is aquaplane city with any decent running water. Like you say the thought in the back of your mind that it's someone elses car keeps the ego in check (well for most of us).

Now we need some pics! are you buying local or going to import one through radical aus but from a uk owner?

You run 100 octane Roy.... what concoction are you brewing to get that?

I'm thinking a switch to E85 is on the cards, but I really want to pump it from Caltex, not store drums. I'm uncertain in the Caltex is stable enough to risk running on a mega dollar engine like an RB20?

My first session was in the dry which was lucky, and the next two were in the teaming rain. I had a little sideways moment in turn 4 when the confidence started to build which was a nice reminder that although wets are fantastic you shouldn't get too cocky! I would love to say I was out there tearing the track up, but to be honest it was embarrasingly slow and I could have punted the STi around there quicker  But alas, it gave me some experience and a taste for the car that I just couldn't shake. Such an intense experience being so low to the ground, with a bike engine buzzing at 10,500rpm behind your head, water spraying up from the louvres in the arches and the car squirming in your hands at 200km/h on the straight. So cool.

It wasn't all smooth sailing though. In my versy first session I had a light coming together with another car which put me into the gravel. They deemed it not my fault so no costs involved, but still shook me up as I've never had a track incident before and a bit of a confidence denter in my first session. The car only had a scratch, and the other car had a piece of bodywork damaged but all ok in the end. On the exact same lap, this occurred to one of the other drivers:

All I saw when I was getting towed back to the pits was another SR3 with it's front end missing and I thought to myself "Holy shlt, was that caused by our coming together??!" I thought perhaps he had lost some aero when we touched and then had an off... Turned out to be another car but at the same time as my incident. Bit of a heart in mouth experience though!

I've put a deposit on a car from Radical UK and am bringing it in next year through Radical Australia. It has a great spoec on it and is having all major components rebuilt or replaced prior to coming in, including a brand new FIA spec updated crash box which is great. Here is the car itself:

I just run pump 100RON from United. I am too lazy to try IY race fuel these days.

Dane, you SUCK!

car looks awesome dane!

fcking hell having a touch with another SR3 on your test day must have been awful. did they have incar in both cars to help them decide who was at fault? it would suck otherwise as there is a big chance of copping blame for something that's not your own making.

the bloke in the SR3 who went into T1 wall was 50/50. he was un luckly the lancer moved over on him but that is exactly what people do there. he did not pick his place to pass. even in a car thats 11ty times faster than the one you're passing you still need to pick your time and place and dictate the pass on your terms not just try and glide by at whatever moment you happen to arrive behind the bloke. pretty sad though and a bit more experience and he would have backed out of the move much sooner and not ended up in a spin. no one believes it but all the big ones at EC happen on the inside at T1 you get wide and into a spin and the pendulum effect catapults you into the inside wall. nasty.

your car already has the 69 number on it. nice. :)

agree I hate him too but only a bit since I'm holding him firmly to the promise of a steer. being a tall bloke his is an SR3 i can probably drive without kneeing myself in the face all the time.

dane: bet you love all the options for different sized drivers. makes it much more accessibly to their target market that's for sure. most other similar cars are for the regular jockey sized pro racers. and leave the rest of us fked.

Top work Dane and the car looks the goods! Sorry to hear about the incident on the test day - stuff like that is enough to dent anyones confidence.

Conversation with the radical driver at PI went something like this:

Me: "So what speeds does it get upto on the straight?"

Radical Pilot: "Oh around the 260 mark"

Me: "Really......my R get upto that and more with a bit of fettling"

Radical Pilot: "Yeah we hit 260 and then turn into turn 1....no brakes"

Me:  "Holy sh.... how much is one of these again?"

:)

69 was the deal clincher

Yeah, it was pretty much the worst thing that could have happened 4 laps into my first try at EC in a 100k + car. I didn't know what happened, all I knew is that I was fairly worried! Luckily the car had a camera in it, and after they reviewed the footage let me know all was ok. They were very good about the whole thing, and wheeled another car out for us in 10 minutes.

Pretty scary incident at 160km/h, but I was super impressed with how well the car held up. I spoke with the guy afterwards and he was fine, apart from being a bit sore. Those crash boxes are fantastic and Radical upgrading my car to the new FIA spec unit was a big positive.

That's one of the biggest plus points. I fit in without any issues at all. After getting used to the alien driving position it was fantastic. The only minor issue is heal-toeing is a touch difficult as my foot touches a part of the bodywork but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. The throttle being super responsive doesn't help so I guess it's a familiarity thing. One of the guys in NSW is 6'7 and fits in no worries.

I hate Dane too.... but will love him when we visit eachother interstate and do some car swapping :(

Wife swap? :)

Stop talkin about poofy real race cars

This is a Skyline forum, get your RB love back out :)

I got bored saturday, pulled mine apart a bit more.... I've decide to put the GTR gaurds on that I've had for ages, and pump the rear a lot.

Roy has also very kindly sent me his spare TD06 truck turbo kit to try/buy. Thanks again mate :(

I'm on the hunt for some 18x10.5" wheels in GTR offset guys, if you have/know of any?

Good to see Ben!

I have a set of 18x10.5 +15 TE37 SL's that I'm trying to fit under mine. It's a bit of a mission with inner front guard clearance. Spacers will be required!

Time attack is where it's at!

It was a shame as it ruined the second session for me as I was watching my mirrors constantly and driving very conservatively. The third session was good though, despite it pissing down with rain. I was starting to feel more comfortable, and there were less cars on the track as not many went out in the wet. 1 more session would have been nice though.

I can only imagine how much fun turn 1 will be at PI at full throttle. Turn 7/8 would be awesome too I imagine.

Can''t get too excited though, it's a little while off yet. Need to start selling some car parts STAT!! :(

We should talk Russ, see eachother through this

I'm thinking +15 with a 20mm spacer.... am I being silly do you think?

Where can we buy SLR5000 type flares for these things?

Yep I was thinking the same. Perhaps 15mm spacer if possible.. I was hopeing to get them under pumped GTR guards front and rear... Don't really like bolt on.

My next step is to put some 265/35/18's on my SL's and trial spacers. 20mm is most likely. No time atm though.

If it's a silly idea then that makes 2 of us haha. Check out my fb photo's when I trial fitted with 25mm spacer (no tyre)

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
