I'm thinking +15 with a 20mm spacer.... am I being silly do you think?

also consider the effect that will have on your geometry. Main thing will be scrub radius on the front. Moving that outward too far can cause things like instability under brakes, increased steering effort, and more feedback through the wheels when hitting bumps. Can also reduce the cornering power you can generate. I had too much '+' scrub on an old Datto years ago...

looked better with these.

went better (2.6sec over 3 laps of Morgan Park) with these. Both had Yoki A032R.

Did that thing even have "geometry" Harry? :P

Seriously though, I'm hearing you all fellas, and am somewhat aware of the the possible negatives of going as wide as reasonably attainable, but, and it's a big but, do the positives outweight the negatives?

I've spoken to a bit of a local "guru" up here whom designs race cars from scratch, not sedan cars though, more your open wheelers and "sports cars", and his formula is telling me I need width, more width in fact that I can cost-effectively obtain.

I've never really been able to get my head around the finer points of geometry, for lack of interest if I'm honest, I'm really just a bloke who gets in and drives the thing, working around its foibles. I'm certain my 32 as it sits now (virtually stock with a set of Apexi coil overs and some camber bushes) has PLENTY of negatives, but I don't notice them, and the thing is pretty quick!

I get people PM-ing me asking what setting I use or what it has, I tell them, and they tell me I'm wrong! I then go and smack them by five seconds a lap.

So, I'm wondering, if I widen the track by a total of approx 80mm, and run a 10% wider tyre, leaving the geometry how it is.... will it go faster or slower?

Richard you soft fleshed office dweller, the sticker is my free mechanic/hoist/workshop so it can look however it wants! :P

Harry, no idea mate sorry! Seen plenty, aint seen any broken ones?

hey brus. no need to wanna throw down brus. chill brus. don't make get all ol skool upside yo head....brus...

LOL, it's "Brij's" Captain Dickhead. And just because his name's Elvin doesn't mean he won't smack you around a bit..... ok, he wont, he's tiny.

oh but yeah there is not as many sets of 5zigen around like there are rays etc to do a real comparison but I don't think I've seen any smashed ones either and I have seen some on circuit. they do look like high quality wheels.

I knew it was Brijs you hobb gobblin! just looked like brus and for a second thought maybe you were a secret sheep farmer... :P

I make it up to you later... ohh yeeaaahh. nice and slow like the old days.

There will be plenty of difficulties tryint to make them work but at the end of the day, more track/tyres has gotta count for something. The main reason I wanna do it is that my car is well ballanced now and if I go for the power by 60-70kw's I want then I need to up the tyre.

I'm really only going for GTR size tyres (265-285) so I can beat them with 200-300kg's less of 4wd crap. If it works on a GTR why wouldn't it work for it's little brother?

thanks marlin I didn’t think anyone would notice me lurking in the shadows…..

You know me, anything to do with 32’s (GTSt’s of course) and I’m all ears.

I think your local guru is correct in saying you could do with more width by widening the cars track, but going 10% on tyres width as well could lead to slower times.

I would also think that changes to the geometry would follow after widening the cars track. I am always trying something different with the way my car is setup, but it’s hard to judge at times cause we lack anything close to real race track up this way. Hell I still don’t have a decent set of coilovers……you just gotta run with what you got.

Maybe I'd be better served taking baby steps?

GTR front gaurds first, run the 18x9 with 265, and experiment with with bolt on spacers? I have 20mm and 15mm versions here.

I remember my old 32GTR responded well to running front 20mm spacers, turned in much nicer, but was otherwise rather stock suspension-wise.

It's just so tempting with Advan releasing a 295..... that's a lot of tyre!
