Weird Sound From Clutch Or Gearbox

Recommended Posts

Hi all Skyline professionals, really need your advice:

Sound seems coming from below the shift stick (It's a manual gear GTS-t S2) during driving when the rev starts from 3,000 rpm. It is a frequent 'dak dak dak....' sound, like some rotating metallic parts hitting something quickly. The frequency of the 'dak dak' sound grows with the rev rpm. It happens only when I push on the gas pedal. Once I release a bit (not even fully putting off my foot away from the pedal), the sound goes out, even above 3,000 rpm.

The car is quite original in terms of power and drivetrain: stock engine, stock turbo and stock gearbox. Only a Nismo Single Clutch and a C's short stroke are installed and have been used for about 4 years. The sound appears actually about 1 year ago. I thought it was due to the aged clutch and is therefore replaced recently full set including flywheel and the bearing comes along with the package (Nismo Coppermix Single Clutch). The situation still not solved.

Anyone have similar experience? Please help.

Would it be due to the C's short shifter that may have crunch the gearbox? Does it help if I change back to the stock shifter?

Please help.

I changed back to the stock shift stick and the situation is similar.

Is it the property of the Nismo Coppermix Clutch?

Please help... :)

Thanks for your kind reply.

Actually, like you said, I headed to 2 mechanics already. One is the 'family doctor' for my Skyline these years and the mechanic said it is not a big issue as now and as the sound is not really big, can't tell exactly where it comes from. Obviously he had never encountered similar situation.

The other one said it is the detoriated bushes holding the crankshaft and it simply means a engine rebuild. Sounds terrible.

Therefore I'd like to see if anyone having similar problem. Don't want a trial and error at this stage.

very odd problem you got there champ

i'd be heading to the nearest competent mechanic asap
