...Well done, some great times by the sound of it. Not sure I know who Tas_180 is but a great effort also!...

Excuse my being a bit slow - Tas_180 is Ben G? Ex Liberty, pulled over to chat when I had the GT parked near the Botanical Gardens?

Tim.

tas_180 is ben p....would post his last name, but he'll have a teary

white 180sx with bronze work emotions.....260rwkw and pretty much setup as a drift car......only change to car during the sprints that was different from the drift events was he was running second hand and rather hard semi's and had problems with the rear brakes being partly locked on due to a dodgy rotor

im sure he'll come back on to talk himself up at some point tho haha

Ben Pertell white 180sx (Tas 180) and Ben Glover blue R32 (grandmasterb) and then there’s Ben Garlic, can’t remember his user name but he used to have a Liberty but has had about 10 cars since then!

It was a good track day, nice pics Nigle and pity my car is still in Melbourne as i would of loved to of been out there.

I would say that Ben Garlic is the one that Tim was thinking of.

Tim.

*insert arrogant comments here* :D

That would be Ben Garlic you're referring to Tim.

As the others have said i drive a 180sx that is set up as a drift car, but took it out last weekend to see how far off i am from my old man's 20+ year old lap record of 59 flat(ish). Didnt change a thing other than soften the rear dampers up to try and get a bit more rear traction, but the tyres still werent anywhere near up to the task . Ill be back soon enough, have some 235/40/18 Direzza's now thanks to sav_man (thanks Ben :)) so i just need to get some better pads all round then ill try and go lower again.

Just goes to show that:

a) drift cars arent the stereotypical pieces of shit they are made out to be down here, as the look on everyones faces when my time was read out at the end of the day proved. I really enjoyed putting a lot of people back in their box last weekend, not to be arrogant but to try and win a bit of respect back for us drifters. Im sick to death of us being used as scapegoats for everything that happens so i thought what better way to improve our reputation than to beat a few circuit boys at their own game.

b) drift car suspension setups arent actually THAT dissimilar to a circuit setup. Sure it's not optimum for timed laps, but with some decent rear tyres it would be much much better.

You would be the Tim with the bullshit fast rex correct?

I was misinformed re' Bens. Common name around here...

Obviously a quick driver and a quick car.

Re' a and b:-

Not quite sure who you're referring to here. As far as I know the drift scene down here has gained quite a lot of respect compared to where it was at the beginning. Maybe there's more to go but I don't see all that much negativity about it now. There will always be the diehards but that's the same anywhere. I think if anything there's a bit of "they don't like me so I won't like them" on both sides.

The only problem I've had with drifters was one incident at the track when it was left in a mess, apart from that I have no problem. I consider myself friends or at least "friendly acquaintance" with some.

To me drift cars are much like any "not crazily serious" race car really - many of them are a bit of a mess but so what? Some are pretty good too in one way or another.

I have the white WRX with the carbon bonnet. Not sure how fast "bullshit fast" is but the car is pretty quick.

don't be a hater cause you don't have a cool name like Ben :domokun:

One of the guy's down there was telling me how drifting destroys the track, and it needs to be resurfaced after every drift day  , i corrected him.

Any single syllable name is ok in my book. :domokun:

It does (in my experience anyway) make the track pretty slippery for a while, that can be a pain but it's not usually a big deal.

I enjoy watching the drifters go at it. I used to do similar things years ago with my Dad. Hmmm, he has a 180SX, maybe I should buy it off him and transform it into a drift car...

I need to add that I haven't always been positive about drifters myself. Not so much the driving style or cars but some of the silliness that I saw going with it at the beginning.

It's important to keep an open mind though and I think as drifting has grown up there's been a general swing towards acceptance. I hope that the drifters feel more inclined to integrate with other kinds of car enthusiasts as well.

I think that the people representing drift down here at an "official" level have done a pretty good job. No names mentioned but people here will know who I'm talking about.

Tim.

Yeah I wouldnt mind a drift car and had toyed with the idea of getting a 180SX/S13 but it seems you may as well drive around with a target on the back of your car with the way they seem to (not always justly) associate drifters with "hoons". I feel worried enough about being targeted in the Subaru let alone in a drift bitch. My wifes partener works in the police garage where they keep the impounded cars and he is always telling me about the nissans in there that they have caught :domokun::rofl:

Sorry Tim didnt mean to come across like i was having a go or a whinge. Just went out there to try and prove a few things, thats what the post was more about than anything written in this thread previously. Yep we are gaining more respect from people overall, and as you say there will always be those against.

As for the comment about your car if its the car im thinking of i saw footage of it from the Collinsvale hillclimb and it certainly seemed as though it had more power than most rex's ive seen down here on any level. Was impressive :). How's your gearbox? :P

Ben (sav_man)- Yep thats a normal response from misinformed idiots. Cant win with some people...

Nigel- Should see when i drive the 180 on the street, it's a magnet for Police cars .
