What a load of shit!

How does the US dollar effect the price of cars that are already in the country?

Actually how does it effect the price of cars coming from Japan either?

If anything, a strong $AU makes things cheaper from overseas.

Back on topic :)

I felt I got a reasonable price and a pretty quick sale.

It results in pushing the current ASP's (Average selling price) down on anything imported.

Its killing the technoligy industry at the moment as grey imports are 1/2 the price of the retail stores.

Which may sound good now, but wholesalers will compensate by jacking up profit margins now and once the dollar drops again the ASP's will rise again to higher prices that before the wave started. In short its good right now, but will be bad round xmas time when most people spend a packet. My advice shop for xmas now...

IE. 50" High def plazma from Sony (Bravia X series) in China $2200AUD, in Australia $4800AUD (quoting cheapest prices seen).

Even if you pay through the teeth on shipping its still going to be a grand less than is sells for in Australia.

Thats the problem with a astong dollar... :)

Stronger $AU means cheaper importation which means cheaper prices on resale from both the However, the primary problem with import resale is basic supply and demand.

Its always about supply and demand, everything in this world is about supply and demand... :)

yeah,I suppose that makes sense,

sorry COL!!!

You better be, no one understands world economic pressures on the depressed seal cubs in antartica like me :)

Yeah it was suprisingly quick.

I thought that thing would be harder to shake than herpes.

    • Good to see you followed your heart, got your dream car and have it pretty well sorted out now. I think anyone can get caught out with a seller not being 100% honest about a cars problems. Can relate to all the electrical issues, had similar issues with my first car (mk2 escort) ages ago

Series hybrid at low speeds, at higher speeds the engine directly drives the wheels but there can still be some power bled off to charge the battery + the electric motor can still provide parallel assistance too. It's really only a question of will at that point. Toyota's PHEVs are selling incredibly well at the moment because of the flexibility. You can run on EV mode when it makes sense, but if you're planning on doing a long highway drive you can still fire up the gas engine and not have to worry about dealing with the rather miserable state of public charging infrastructure.
    • Only reason to keep a MAF on your RB25 is to be able to easily calculate true VE if you know what the factory voltage curve represents in grams per second of flow. Also allows you to do things like pull the original OEM ignition + AFR target tables and use those as a starting point for your base map. Once you're well and truly done tuning though there's no need to retain the MAF.
