I dont think the bov has siezed. It's possible don't get me wrong but i feel it was never set up right in the first place. When you have the factory plumb back there is only the one hose running from the bov to the plenum. Yours is tee'd into with another hose running to the nipple under the cross over pipe. This is not the original setup and where that hose is supposed to go. There should be no 't' piece in the bov line. I will take a pic from my car and show you what i mean.

Thw way you will no for sure if its the bov of the way its hooked up is when you put your turbosmart one on and if it flutters through out the whole rev range - not working, hence its the vac line steup. If it goes pschhh then its all good and the hks bov was stuffed.

oh ok, because my car has been setup this way since i bought it, aparently the previous owner of the car said he had to disable it because he was defected for it, but a picture of your setup will definatly help me out as im thinking maybe it was a waste of time me buying a new bov, thinking my apexi wasnt working... if i can get this setup working maybe i wont need to change my setup...

Ok here are the pics of the correct setup you should have.

You have the hose (with the red arrow pointing to it) tee'd into the bov hose (yellow hose). Where as on mine but hoses are seperate and run to the plenum.

bovdiagram2.jpg

You can see here the same hose and the points it attaches to (marked with blue arrows)

Yours appears to be tee'd into the bov hose for some reason becuase the hormal point that this hose (red arrow) connects to on the plenum appears to be used by another hose running toward the passenger side of the engine by near the fire wall. Where is that hose running to? Does it go through the fire wall and into the cabin? Maybe the guy beofr you used it to get a boost reading for the gauge...

Hope this helps :D

Hmm thats wierd so the bov only has the one hose now running to the plenum? In that case the bov must have stopped working, probably stuck or something as said above. Maybe you should just put on your turbosmart one on in its place and hopefully that one will work. You will probably need to buy an adapter though to it can flange on like mine.

yeah it comes with adaptor, just got to wait for it to come in the post hopefully this week... will it hurt to have a cross piece (X) instead of a T piece so i can have my boost gauge branching of it? or will it reduce accuracy of my boost gauge having to many lines?

You can just tee your boost gauge into the a hose at the front of the plenum. It a little hose only about 8 cm long at the front the the plenum towards the drivers side, and it wont interfere with the bov etc.

  • 2 weeks later...

hey guys i ended up putting my new bov on and set it up the same way that the pictures show (R33silverS2) and still has the flutter sound.... ;)

anyone know whats going?

could it be i should block off what looks like a bleed valve on my turbo (brass fitting on turbo, with hose comming of it leading to nowhere)...

pics...

took it for a drive and it flutters but when given a little bit it does both???

if i give it a good rev it goes off the way it should...

would it need adjusting???

and how? (as i dont have a manual)

Hey mate thats what its supposed to do. ;) Mine does the same and so would anyone elses with aftermarket bov. The bov only opens under higher load conditions such as more boost or higher revs etc. The rest of the time it remains closed and flutters. You can adjust when it opens by turning the head of the bov to make it tighter or looser. The looser you go the less flutter you will get as the more the bov will open and make sound etc. Your setup sounds right just loosen the bov a little.

Although when i say load i dont mean load as in forth gear cruising at 60 with you foot to the floor for a sec, more like when the revs can increase quite freely (lower gears for example)- if that makes sense.
