Hey all.

i installed a drift bov today with plumb back or atmo i could choose either way but i choose atmo..

Since then its been running like crappolia..

Is there anything like a cpu upgrade or soemthing to fix the problem?Or is it just something i have to deal with

If its venting to atmo then you will run rich and your car will occasionally stall. Atmo BOVs on Skylines can be a bad mix. You can fix it up, DAFS.

happens to most people who install the atmosphere venting bov's. After a while you will learn how to adjust your driving so it doesn't stall. All i do is blip the throtle when coming to a stop ect. Do a search on the forum about this, been covered alot of times, you may find some use full tips.

Unfortunately blow off valves and skylines as some other member explained are not a good mix. I even use to have a GFB stealth that you get to adjust how much air is vented and how much is kept and car still didnt feel the same and idle was terrible. I know its not what you want to hear but if you want to have a car that runs well then install your stock bov.

i still have my stock plumback on my s1, no problems as in running, sometimes when letting clutch out a little to move forward in places like drive through with a little bit of throttle then go to put brakr on and clutch in cars idle does drop to close to a stall but then picks up again, only problem i have in regards to stalling hope this helps

Stalling when having a atmo bov installed is a really common thing. The reason it happens is because the afm detects the air going into the engine and puts more fuel in to burn the air, but the air is not getting into the combustion chamber, it's going out of the bov. I hope that made some sense.

As far as I know, it's something you just have to deal with if you're got a bov installed.

some people here adjust the idle just a little higher than stock, others just learn how to drive them like when you're about to stop change gear or clutch in when the idle is near idle speed. Or you rev it a little before you stop.

The main issue with atmospheric BOV's is the AFM... Once air has gone past that it is accounted for by the computer, any difference an atmospheric BOV will cause means there is air accounted for, but not being used. With MAP sensor its a different story as it reads manifold pressures not airflow before the turbo. With the plumb back system the air goes back through the turbo or the afm keeping it all in the circuit of the airflow so the ecu can adjust according to the afm readings. Some cars just handle it better than others, my mates 32 used to be perfectly fine with big turbosmart BOV's but my mates 33 would stall all the time with a Blitz one and then the HKS one.

    • No intention of driving the car the way it's set up now, just wanting to make sure I haven't made any mistakes along the way so that the tune can go smoothly, I don't want to waste anyone's time with stupid issues. And of course I intend to get it towed to the dyno in a completed state 😅 I have the base fuel pressure with the vacuum disconnected set at about 40psi, which I believe is at least relatively close to stock fuel pressure, maybe I'll have a fiddle with the reg and see what happens. For all I know I could be wasting my time with this and I should just plumb it in and see what the tuner reckons. I just find it a bit strange that it seems to be under so much load just free revving, but maybe that's just a result of the turbo slowing down the exhaust gasses and making a restriction in the flow, with no boost to compensate.

    • Right, so is the fuel pressure the same as it was previously? If not, well, it's not going to work well. I can understand the theory I assume you are going for, which is: "Run it N/A, and if I have the original AFM, and same amount of fuel and intake air as previously, the fact there's a turbo in my exhaust should still make it run" Which it... might? Provided you don't actually change how much air or fuel is going into the car.. or getting out. But if you have changed that, all bets are off. What is the purpose to even have the car run this way? To get it to a tuner? And if the goal is to limp it to a tuner, you're still going to what - plumb up a whole intercooler system and new intake in the parking lot out front before your tune......?
    • Haha yea it's a bit of a weird setup at the moment, just wanted to make sure I sorted out any headaches before dyno day. At the moment I've changed the exhaust manifold, turbo and downpipe, 460lph fuel pump and rising rate reg as well as the previously mentioned headstuds and gasket. The nistune was already mapped for the car as it was and drove around for a few months no worries. The plan is to run flex fuel hence the big pump, which I've wired direct to the battery through a relay to avoid voltage issues.
    • Um. Was the ECU the same as the one previously there? I know R33's needed R32 GTST ECU's or other tomfoolery to run Nistune. This is such a wild setup. Most people would plumb in the turbo then not drive the car (i.e tow it to a tuner). What's actually changed since it last ran?
