hey all,

i need some advice on making my car higher. i have a 34 4 door and it has been lowered from aftermarket springs. i dont' have the standard springs on the car as i bought the car without.

now heres the story, my cars body is roughly 15 cm from the ground and the lowest point of my exhaust is roughly 7-8 cm off the ground.

i'm getting a bodykit soon and it'll most likely drag the body down to like 8cm. i want my bodykit to be about 10-13 cm from the ground for legal purposes.

i'm pretty tight on budget but may be able to fork something out.

what are your opinions?

a really cheap option might be to do what i have done with my R32 to try and raise the suspension and clear the car from defect. Make up, or have made up for you some metal plates that sit on the top hat of the strut over the 2 bolts that go into the tower. Work out how much higher youll need to go, for eg, if you want to raise it by 10mm get a 10mm plate and wack in in there. You might want to consider going longer studs on the top hat than standard as i have done so that you can still safely bolt the struts in.

Im pretty sure this would be a good cheap option for you dude but somebody else with a few more suspension smarts than myself might be able to shed some more light on this for you..

good luck

thanks for the replies.

i've decided to expand my budget for some aftermarket coilovers with height and damper adjustable settings.

now the new question is, how high can most of the aftermarket coilovers go? would they reach standard height? or can they go just above?

and the cops go off the lowest point of the car, so in your case the exhaust. so you need to raise it up to 10cm.

If that low point your talking about is beneath the axle, then that doesnt count, look it up on rta they cant get you for having it too low on certain points. just dont rub it in the coppers face or they'll find something else to get you on.

yeh, well i want to raise the car up so the exhaust would be legal height and when i fit my bodykit on it'll have enough height to clear it also.

right now it sucks because the exhaust scrapes alot and it doesn't sound good (yes i do take things on angles)

    • So my rb is finally having more problems. 2 issues here but I'm here to just to mainly discuss the rattle noise. The other day when I turned on the car and when I take off or go in reverse, there is a temporary rattle noise but when I cruise, boost, idle it's completely fine no rattle whatsoever. I've also done all the servicing, all the health checks you can think of and it all passes with flying colours.  Also the rattle doesn't increase with rpm, it's only at a very certain rpm (slightly above 1,100rpm). My other car also has the same issue every once in a while. Changed the oil recently, no difference. Even took my oil to a lab and everything was quite good surprisingly. Timing belt changed a while ago to. Had the car on the hoist and can't see anything obvious. Tightened a couple of nuts on the exhaust manifold a couple of months ago. 2 different clips uploaded. One of them was supposed to another issue but I'll save that for another time. Thought I'd see if anyone had this same noise before, it's a bit hard to diagnose while it's intermittent. If I'm not mistaken, I think I had this a while back but can't remember exactly. I was thinking if it's doable I'll get someone to hold the throttle cable at 1,100rpm and hopefully it replicates the sound. rb25det rattle only.mp4 rb25det slow start + rattle.mp4
    • Haha wow, yes they do! Will sort tomorrow.
    • Yeah I’ll know when I take it for a test drive and I’ll double check the turbos as well when I have a look at it again.  Just thought maybe they might have done something in the head cause it looks like they’ve taken off the rocker covers 🤔 Thanks for your info!
    • As Duncan mentioned it's likely a remapped ECU, like the the one listed in the link I post earlier:  https://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid/444260/car/444612/2099320/parts.aspx He quoted 444PS with an unopened engine and twin GT2510s @ 1.1bar boost... sounds about right?
