As most of you guys may know I'm pretty much set on finding an R32 GTR. However a spanner has been thrown into the works...

Just spoke to a financial planner today, it seems if I hold off on the purchase and put my money into a savings account, and make my usual monthly savings deposit, by the end of next year, I should see double this value in my bank account.

This sounds very alluring, and seeing as I can't find any quality GTR's in japan atm, seems like a good idea.

What do you guys reckon?

Should I keep driving my GTS (which I may convert to a supercharged engine) or should I buy a GTR now and enjoy it?

Choices choices.

Naw, hold off for the GTR and follow everybody elses mistakes.. watch from the sidelines, learn from your opponents mistakes and win grasshopper. Were you after a 15 year one ? If you were, your only other spanner could be if the goverment changes the 15 year rule.

I have an alternative path ;) but involves buying a property for security for larger car loan - mine could be a year or two off, but i can wait. GTR wouldn't be cheap to run or maintain anyway.

My thoughts are thus (but i could be wrong ..what do i know)... lots of people will buy 89 models which will therefore push the price of non-89 models down a lot more than normal as there will be more around in the market mid-next year

The "purists" :( will probably realise that a 15 year old GTR is probably not the greatest idea, and go for the 91/92/93/94 models in good condition.

well an 89 gtr being the first model released didn't really have all the good shit, like ABS brakes for example. I read on a japanese website that the ATESSA software was also updated in 1991 for better response.

Hmm yeah I'm leaning towards buyin it at the end of next year. I mean I can buy one now, but like, I could buy 2 next year :(

If I don't end up getting one right now, I'll be supercharging my GTS ;) most probably with a 1GZE Toyota supercharger. Maybe a port of the engine as well, along with a stock R34 intercooler. Should see me keeping up with the turbo boys ;) while still maintaining a low profile. Oh and bring on the rice.

Only problem is if this years mass importation come 1st Jan is a success, then the number of habibs and marios that are willing to put their money on the line will quadruple next year, meaning more competition for a 1990 GTR.

Its better to be a pioneer than a follower.

There's numerous valid arguements for both... I'll have to decide whcih to belive. I think i'll have a word with Troy as I trust his judgement. Any1 else got any opinions?

i have been thinking about this too... and i really am starting to think about not getting a GTR.

i was thinking about modifying the GTST i have right now and turning it into a well balanced driver.... focusing more on handling aspects and working the internals of the engine to increase the acceleration and overall perormance of the engine rather than high but useless and laggy power like most ppl do with strap on mods.

nah guys meggala is just an idiot when I said a few months ago I wont be buying an 89 gtr as tempting as they might be for all of the above reasons :(

funky the super cherger option is a no go trust me on that it will cost heaps and the power gain will be minimal if youwant aquick fix just bolt a turbo cooler injectors and ecu and you shuld be fine I have heard of cars like this running low 14 second 1/4s.

your other option if you like to be different is to fit a sr 20 to your car. bolts straight in the only hassle is the wiring for the dash better weight distrobuition as well.

I think Meggala is on to something there. A blacktop SR out of an S14 would be great. I know heaps of silvia's are puttin RB's in, but i think i know of about 2 R32's with SR's under the hood. Will raise a few eyebrows i'd say. Add the usual Ricey features, a few cheap bolt on's, and Bob's ya uncle...

    • So recently at the track had experienced a loss of throttle after a period of WOT after installing the emtron ecu, recently did some logging to troubleshoot the issue and found the ECU was cutting due to a low oil pressure issue. Going over the log can see that while accelerating at 4k rpm will see 100 PSI of pressure and holding steady at that level until getting off the throttle which then after can see as low as 25 PSI at 3-4k rpm and will recover back to a normal level after that.   Wondering if anyone has an idea what could be the cause as it just feels abit strange and i dont feel like it could be a sensor issues just due to it clearly sitting at a good pressure until off throttle, in the attached can see a 3rd and 4th gear pull but can even perform great through 3 and 4 gears of WOT but still once off throttle and getting back on it will see pressure drop.
    • There are a few different ways of doing it. I'm currently running two 1000cc pre-TB nozzles and PWM the pump for control. I'll be moving over to a constant pressure system and direct port. I'll run the pump off a regular relay, have it cycle on roughly 5psi before I start injecting to build pressure and then PWM a WMI solenoid (It's basically an injector that can take a lot of pressure and not corrode with water and meth.) The solenoid feeds the 6 direct port ~200cc nozzles. I'll also keep one ~250cc pre-TB nozzle to help keep IAT's in check.  Safety will be a little different as well. I used to use a pressure switch but will be moving over to a pressure sensor between my solenoid and nozzles. I'll trigger my solenoid and if I don't see specific pressure within a specific timeframe (e.g 100psi within a second, 175psi within 2 seconds), I kill it and revert back to non WMI maps the same way I did it before with 4D in Haltech. I was just figuring out the timers in my ecu last night. They made that a little more complicated than I would have liked... I wish Haltech offered a larger set of logic/math functions like other ecu's do. I can't do very much with just AND's and OR's.  I've been asked to do fuel/ignition mapping on a medium bore engine at work in May (192L V16). Being the only programmer in my region and having went and opened my mouth about knowing the ins and outs of fuel/ignition mapping, I have now been deemed an expert. Fun fun. The entirety of the logic and algorithms are programmed in C on a PLC. As I spend more time figuring it all out, I like what I see and eventually I may consider doing the same as a pet project to replace my ecu.   
    • This would be interesting, would you feed it via a 2nd row of injectors? Or just usual WMI nozzles?
