Question about Reverse

Hi All, hope everyone and their loved car are well.

Question, it may be silly but I thought I'd ask.

I was about to engage reverse gear in my car

however due to a slight slope it was slowing rolling back,

when I try to push the gear stick for reverse there is a

small crunch, and it wont go into gear unless the car is

stopped. Is that normal... or the clutch is not cutting

in correctly.

Mine did that the first time i drove it, i tried to put it in reverse while i was roling down a driveway (backwards of course) and it made a small crunch, i guess they all do it. now i just fully stop then put it in reverse

they do that. i assume they are small synchros on reverse? just make sure that you're always stationary

There is no synchro on reverse on any car I know of. There are probably exceptions but I don't know of them. So it's completely normal for it to crunch unless you're completely stopped.

extremely small ~ zero... thats what i was always told when studying engineering...

so was "if it don't fit, force it..." wait, hang on, maybe thats wrong
