y do people continue to street race.....i just dont get it...

Cause you dont have to go to a track, plus its cheap, not everyone can afford to go all the way to friquen towoomba just to have one go around a circuit, plus all the gear and shit u need. Its just easy. I say to fix this, governement should just open a closed airport strip somewhere and you can go race and be an idiot there at ur own risk, that way atleast ull be off the roads.

Sorry dude, but by your logic, won't they just skip the closed airport just like they do a designated track?

I think it's got nothing to do with being cheap or easy, but more to do with people just don't get that street racing is dangerous. I think only one of two things can change someones mind when it comes to this, and that is

1. mature and grow out of it

2. unfortunateally be involved or have a loved one involved in a severe accident because of street racing

If both these things have happended to you and you still don't get it, then the quicker you drive off to that big street race track in the sky, the better off the rest of us will be.

As far as gear you need for a circuit, every track i've been to, only asks you have ankle to neck clothing, closed shoes and a helmet (which at someplaces you can hire for $20)

I fully aggree with your there NISMO

immature drivers, go out, watch a movie like Fast and the Furious(which is really quite sh*thouse) then think, wow, let's race some idiot in his hyundai done up and if we crash like they do on the movies, it'll just dent the front bumper.

Next thing they know, they've crashed into someone....thinking they would have the chance to get out the way, I also think most of them have never had an accident before, once you have have one, you'll be worried about your next one that's for sure.

for me it isn't the cost of the gear, it's the 6 hour drive (3 each way) and the cost of fuel, and then spending all that time and money to get half a dozen runs down the strip. so basically for my it is about $95 and 6 hours driving to do 90 seconds of track time over a 4 hour period at the track. and then they don't have test and tunes every weekend, and i can't go on wednesday nights cause i wouldn't get there till they are just about to finish up, so that would be $95 and 6 hours to possibly not even get a chance to run. if it was just down the road i'd be lining up before they opened and they would have to kick me out at night.

but then i don't go out and try to race every car i see either. i will just fang it a bit every now and then.

but i also have a thing against old drivers that shouldn't be on the road. my mate's dad was killed on a motorbike when an old guy pulled out from an intersection without looking. he wasn't speeding, and never did. he was a fireman and had seen enough accidents to know the outcome. the old guy just didn't look. and i have nearly hit a few old ladies that pull out of the shopping centre carparks onto the road without looking. and when i was a school i saw an old guy drive straight through a stop sign at 40kmh (was in the school zone) and into the path of a bus. luckily the bus was slowing down to turn, but still smashed the car up pretty good. luckily no-one was hurt. and i have been on a bus that an old guy didn't give way to. i was sitting in the middle of the back seat and went flying down the isle. i ended up about 1/2 way down the bus.

Circuit in Toowoomba ehh... don't think so buddy. QR is like 30mins from Brisbane.

The clarification on the "tyre exploding" assertion is even stupider:

One witness said the vehicles were driving "flat out", and another reckoned the cars braked so hard before the fatal crash that their "rear tyres exploded", Senior Sergeant Baghurst said.

Yes, because the harder you brake the more the weight shifts to the rear, loading those tyres up even more, and increasing the risk of failure. Forget physics, lets just rely on non-expert eyewitness accounts!

That comment is so implausible it shouldn't have even borne repeating. Typical ratshit sensationalism...

no you are forgetting the hand brake. i know that whenever i want to stop in a hurry i don't touch the brakes i just reef on the handbrake, cause having 10mm wider tyres on the back, and all the weight on the front tyres works way better then using all 4 tyres and having the bias on the front.

but the cops could simply walk up to the cars and look at the tyres to see if they are flat or not.

That sounds like police work, and they were probably too busy looking for uncovered pod filters.

From this pic:

the tyres look fine on both cars.

That not what Wade Watson said

True, but Wade Watson could also be a retard.

From this article it says he saw the tyres on the silver Commodore blow (the red one was just generating a lot of smoke, suspicious evidence since the VY range should have ABS across the board).

In that photo, the driver's side rear tyre is clearly visible and intact. While the passenger side one is not clearly visible, the car isn't canted to that side.

agreed with scathing... more sensationaliist journo crap. If thats the intersection im thinking it is... I know it very well... its had more head on accidents that any other due to piss poor design... its a long straight run of 3 lanes either side.. highway infact... its like a 80k highway road that becomes 40 durring certain hours becuase of a school within a blocks worth of vicinity. that exact intersection has had more than a few writeoffs and I believe theres been a few fatalities there before also.

due to the vast speed difference from 40kph traffic and 80 kph traffic and the stupid confusion cuased there is always more traffic than there needs to be and the crapness of traffic lights means exhorbitently long waits to turn right. after getting impatient people crack it an try to launch across...

on the corner just to the left is also a petrol station.... this does not help matters with people comeing in and out..

its also a major inlet for a traffic only suburb... not that the road looks like it when you look at it. its as if they hadnt worked out it was a quick way for 1 section of hte suburb to get home that bit quicker so they never upgraded it and walla... more traffic than planned for....

the school is on the right hand side.....

colyton/stclair left st mary's / mtdruit right and antoher 2k's down the road major intersection of queenst/mamre and the highway ?

coppers didnt have to come far.. their station is just before queen st on the other side of the road....

if this is where im thinking it is...

anyone got the location ?
