You really need to have all four done, balance between the front and rear in terms of rate, rebound etc etc is an integral part of making a car handle well. Aftermarket dampers will not be matched to the stack springs for a start which will not allow them to work to maximum benefit. You need to match the springs to the dampers. I would say that the stock suspension setup is often better than a half done suspension package.

If you can get a front set of dampers cheap, then get them but leave them off until you can get the rest of the package right too. I would reccommend buying a spring and damper package rather than individual components unless you have a good knowledge of the required spring rates and the damper rates to suit them.

Russ

If you know what spring rates you want you can buy springs in a few different rates, or you can get springs made to your specs.....

Or Tein, whiteline etc offer the package type deal where they have done a bit of research and put together what they consider to be a good combination.

Also dont forget other suspension mods which if done well you can see a vast improvement in handling too, sway bars, adjustable camber etc......

Do some research before you outlay the $$'s, you generally get what you pay for though.

If you're into drag racing, it'd be a good idea to keep the stockers in the rear as opposed to harder aftermarket suspension. But if you're anything else, i.e, track work or drift, then you definately wanna have the same sort of suspension in front and back unless you know how to, and want it set up otherwise.

is there anywhere i can go to tell me exactly what i have ... that can tell me spring rates and damper rates ... and tell me what i could do to match the front and back to give me better handling .. would a suspension specialist be able to do these things?? how would i know that recommended rates are best to suit a skyline??

Unless you are quite serious I would suggest a preset package....with adjustable dampers.

If you couple this with adjustable sway bars, you will be able to tune the suspension through a fairly wide range of handling characteristics.

If you are after rates etc you need to elaborate on what you will use the car for a bit more. Is it a dedicated race car or do you never take it on the track. What sort of rubber do you run. etc....just as much info about the car as you have....

Cheers,

Russ
