Harmonic Balancer Keeps Getting Loose......

Can anyone help me!!

I've got a GTR32 and having problems with the harmonic balancer, I've gotten it tighten twice, but it keeps getting loose after a few days. It's been tighten by hand using a wrench. Is there a special tool needed to tighten it?

Has anyone had this problem before, and how do I fix it??

Hi Chris, I have found the best way to undo and tighten the harmonic balancer is to remove one of the clutch slave cylinder bolts (the one below the flywheel ring gear) Find a longer bolt with the same thread and grind a taper (point) on the end.

(so the thread does not get damaged when the bolt is removed) And then wind the bolt in (tight) so it contacts and locks the fly wheel. You will find you can put a lot of tension on the HB bolt with this tip. Good luck. Clive

u got to do it up to 450nm

just make sure the key that fits in the groove is not worn also i little bit of locktight on the hb bolt will help as well

Yeah im about to do my timing belt as soon as i get a free day , that bolt has got me worried

i noramall put the car in gear with the hand brake up and some pushing the brake when i do them up

never had one com lose doing it that way
