Syd: Where Is Good Place To Buy Digital Camera?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a compact digital camera around Sydney.

Anyone have any recommendations on where to go for good prices?

I'm no pro and not looking to buy a DSLR but I have 2 compact digital cameras in mind.

Canon IXUS 850IS

Panasonic Lumix FX-30

Both are 28mm. Are these any good, or are there better cameras in the same size and price?

Cheers!

I actually bought mine (DSLR) off e-blah thru Digital rev, a few photog's have used them and all are happy. they come from Hong Kong but usually arrive within 5 days after dispatch!! not bad considering mine cost around $1100.. and if you buy thru Paypal you get insurance etc... all good!

I Bought a DSLR, but for quality service and great advice I highly recommend Tom Saade's Camera House Parrmatta, bloke who served me when i bought the camera (steve was his name) still remembers me when i go in to browse at accessories. My first choice now everytime i want something camera related. Their product knowledge is awesome, they know every camera inside out, I was happy to hand over my $1600 hard earneds there!

EDIT: Details are:

If you're looking for something thats got all the manual functions you want, but isnt DSLR, have a look at the Canon A series... A630 or 640 is top of the line at the moment, I used to have an A70 - until it was flogged last year... best little camera, hardy, easy to operate, took a great pic for its age.

They are quite large for a 'compact' camera, but I like that, a little bit of weight and something to hold onto comfortably.

On the other hand, following the loss of my camera, I bought an IXUS 60 for my mrs, and for a pocket camera, they're great, enough manual controls to keep the budding photographer happy, but good point and shoot options for anyone to use.

Personally I'm a great fan of Canon, I've always used them and never had an issue.

www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au has the cheapest prices around, great service, and most camera shops will match them dollar for dollar or with a deal (ie throw in memory cards, batteries, tripod etc)
