Hi everyone,

As 1 of my mate own a performance shop in hk, i am now able importing new parts at cheap price, instead making web site, open a shop, what i do is matching the prices of http://www.greenline.jp greenline. I also sell stuff which not showing on their web site, feel free to ask if there is anything u want.

When u purchase from them, u have to pay 15% to the custom and 10%GST (total 25%), what i do is u only pay 12.5% when u buy from me.

Any product under $200 will be tax free.

EMS postage will be very expensive if u purchase big stuff like intercooler, rims...

instead of sending by air, i can offer people of choice sending by sea - save a lot from postage

(e.g. an intercooler by air would be $200+? sea would be $60-$80)

Only selling to adelaide people atm, but will able to sell in Sydney and melbourne soon. I don't make big $$ on selling stuff, the money i earn will help a bit of my car mod/living expense. The reason i do it is i don't want to work part time anymore, which affect my study quite a lot. As a oversea student, I am paying 17k+ school fee per year! not include living of course...

just give u a brief idea how cheap the stuff is.

HKS GT Sports Turbine Kit

GT2530 turbo. Wastegate actuator. Gasket.

will be around $2750 + postage by sea($150?)

HKS Camshaft

256 degrees duration, 8.8 mm lift

around $1069 per pair + postage by sea($100?)

WHY go for second hand if new is that cheap??:P

the method of knowing how much the product is:

price showing on greenline web site

plus 12.5% tax on top , if it's over a$200

plus postage

i am not sure how much is the postage either, i am guessing too.

for PFC, it would be around $50-$100 by air

u are lucky of not being catch by custom, but mostly, custom will open yr box and charge tax.

i receive two 10-20kg box of jap snack/sweet from my mum every month, nearly MOST of them has been opened and checked.

let's face it, custom is working everyday.

injectors are small so it might be fine, but try something bigger like intercooler and exhaust and see what custom do to u...:(

PLS mention about WHEN custom charge, buying from me save u 12.5% :(

I got a brand new HKS turbo - customs didnt touch it. HKS CAMP customs didnt touch it. HKS wastegate customs didnt touch it. Fuel pressure regulator customs didnt touch it. Trust shift knob customs didnt touch it. I have never heard from anyone that they imported something for personal use and were hit duty or gst - car parts anyways. The only time something I ordered wasnt opened by customs is when it came from NZ

Have you ever been hit duty or gst on anything from your Mum?

Yes they check, but how often do they actually charge?

My main point is that you say in your first post that 'when you purchase from them ....you have to pay 25%'.

This is totally misleading and in fact totally wrong you should be saying you MAY pay 25% from them but you WILL pay 12.5% from me.

I just think it is wrong to mislead people to profit from them.

Steve, whilst I am 100% for bringing in stuff yourself I had it pointed out to me that say you buy a PFC from JPN ....

Cost ex-JPN $1,050

Shipping (say) $ 100

---------

TOTAL $1,150

BUT if customs open it and decide it should be taxed (supposed to if value over $200) then they will

work out RRP in Aus $1,800 (I think)(and can take up to 2 weeks)

duty on $1,800 * 15% = $270

THEN GST on total $2,070 plus GST on shipping $100

= $2,170 * 10%

So in total you're up for $1,050 to buy the thing, $100 shipping, $270 duty and $217 GST TOTAL $1,637 .... that is 70% more than the original price of $1,150 landed here.

If you get caught this is how it works.

In saying all of that, I personally believe it is worth the risk of saving $700 .... so I AGREE with you Steve - just thought I'd point out how it works to the less informed :)

btw did you see the price of Toda cams on the Greenline page? $283 each .... awesome performance upgrade for $700odd landed here!

Of course in all of this you have to weigh up the warranty issue .... if something goes wrong, what then???

I see what your saying and it is always a risk. Good to be able to make an informed choice.

I did get a whole brand new HKS 3037 turbo through (retails with GCG for $5880), it got opened and inspected - not hard to work out that it is worth more than a couple of hundred dollars.

On the declaration for my injectors it also had the price being 1000, but still nothing even though they opened.

I just think you would have to be really really unlucky to be hit - unless you try and bring in quantity of course thats a different matter.

Honestly, your chances are that small, that I will order the stuff and only charge 5% - I am that confident :)

Were those cams for the RB20/25 or SR20, cos the 4 cylinder ones are a bit cheaper - now is definately a good time to buy with the yen being so weak:)

They are for the SR20 but I'd assume RB20 cams are a similar price? The ones I am referring to don't need cam gears (not sure if RB20 ones would need cam gears - if so then they would obviously be more expensive).

Yeah the A$ is the strongest its been for as long as I can remember against all currencies - even US$ items are reasonably priced with A$ tipping over the 65c mark :) .... if only we could get to 100 Yen to the dollar then my buying spree would well and truly begin ;)

steve .. i don't think tin is chargin that extra 12 percent or whatever .. hes just saying that he can help out and get stuff for the same price as greenline ... i think hes just saying that you could be taxed or u might not .. depends on ur luck .. i really can't see how u never ever get taxed at all .. you are one lucky OLD bastard!!! i think i will get u to get stuff for me when i need it ... cause i'm about to get a stereo from overseas in the next week and i surely hope i don't get taxed!!!

well, they do charge, b4 u shoot me, ring up custom and ask if what i say is true. They can charge u 25% whenever they want as they will told u have no evidence to show that u are using the stuff or selling it.

If u bring the part with u, they won't charge. But by post, usuallythe custom will charge u.

if custom open yr box and don't charge u, u are LUCKY.

If everything with a word 'personal use' can be tax free, the distubutor in Aus. will all go bank rob.

for e.g. My mum bought me a sony DC for christmas present and i bought myself a profec e-01 when i go back hk last christmas, i use the DC for the whole holiday, and i left both of them over there when i come back. I ask my mom to send them here then as i want to use it. The DC has no box, no manual, and used. custom open my box and charge me $271 for the DC and $200 for the e-01. recipt can be show if u want to.

if u are not happy with what i charge.

I WILL NOT charge any tax before hand.

IF custom charge tax, i pay the 10% G.S.T. for the customer!

how is it?

When i was gettin a supercharger from USA, customs told me that i have to pay 15% tax, and then 10% GST.

So im with Maxx. Althou Steve has got heaps of stuff without trouble. It must b the pick of the draw. Knowing me, they would def pin me assholes.

Also figure this out. Its illegal to tax a tax, yet the govt. do it here.

Say u buy somethin for $1000

Then add import tax 15% = 1150

Then add GST 10 %, they used the 1150 figure, not the 1000 figure.

This is illegal yet the assholes do it!

Maxx, I agree that if everybody did it, the business would go bust, but sounds like you will be doing similar?

If you get things in for people and they are happy - all is good, please dont think I am trying to stop you from making a few dollars and provide a service for people, although it would be a good idea to be careful how you sell your services, as I am sure there are businesses out there that wont appreciate someone doing some freelance. It would be different if you were just trying to 'help out fellow forum members' than going into a business of your own :)

I just wanted to point out that originally your post sounded misleading - in my eyes anyways - and I thought for anybody thinking of using your services that they should be well aware of both sides:) (thanks for your help as well nightcrawler).

The offer in the last post sounds very fair that IF you get slugged by customs, THEN you will pay GST - couldnt get fairer than that:D Makes for a very good offer, ideal if people are worried about duty and tax.

Once again good luck with the enterprise.

Enrico, how the govt gets around it is that the first 15% is Duty, therefore on paper its not a tax, very handy use of semantics to further their own cause. Duties are designed to enable competition by the local market in theory.

TODA, man that's nasty .... he's just trying to help out a few mates in getting things that importers/licensees here make up to 100% profit on. There is no ****ing way I am gonnna buy Toda cams here (for example) that cost me over $500 a stick, when I can get them direct from Jpn or through Maxx for $283 + shipping .... even if I factored in the 15% duty and 10% GST I would still be ahead! (not by much, but still .... and thats if I got 'pinged' by customs).

Nightcrawler... You're right...

It was a nasty thing to say.... But true enough…

Why is it people don't want to support the local performance industry…

You say over $500 a stick?

Full whack retail on the SR20 camshafts talked about is $484 each…(shipped to your door)

You’re right in saying that you’d be ahead, but not by much… approx $90 for argument sake…

That’s if customs did sting you…

& Say approx $250 if you got away with it…

What do you do if your product is damaged in shipping?

What if it slipped through quality assurance?

What if you want the English instructions?

C’mon… be honest… Why should I be nice to people who make more work for me… Would you?

At the end of the day it is me who has to help the people with their parallel imported Toda products…

I'll be honest, I hate doing it, but it’s in my best interest to do so… Just as would having the cause removed…

When my email is working again… (Damn you to hell ilisys – you bastards!)

Hopefully early next week… Email me…

I’ll sort you out… No problem…

There is a lot of agression on this forum against the industry...

What do we have to do to make you guys happier?

Sorry dude I didn't mean it as a personal attack .... the real problem lays in the high price your wholesalers charge you. Of course what you charge the public is a reflection of that cost. I just think that if Jpn shops can sell them at $283 retail, then someone is making a LOT of money in the middle somewhere. (between the Jpn wholesale price of say A$230 {which would leave the Jpn businesses with 20% markup} - and the Aus retail price of $483) - in fact 100% difference. This is the case with most Jpn goods - the middle man takes a large chunk of the pie.

I agree parallel importing is a risk and here in Aus you have all the associated cost of shipping, wharehouse, staff, warranty etc to deal with, so all this has to be factored into your price. It's just a case of $968 + fitting vs. (possibly) $720 + fitting (assuming post from Jpn is $150 and no duty or GST).

But if you can go any way to get near what I would be paying from Jpn then I'd be more than happy to send my business your way! Same goes with a Power FC (to suit S15/200SX), Greenline do them for $1,050 .... what can you do on them? (if you do them as well).

Thanks for the open discussion. At the end of the day it's all about the money. If we can get it cheaper from OS then that's what we'll do, cos when we spend say $5,000 average on mods on our cars, if we save 20% off Aus prices we save a grand to spend on other things/upgrades. What would you rather pay? (Of course there are other issues like you stated to consider too).

It's pure economics, nothing at all against the industry here of course.

just try to make some extra pocket $, as the profit i make is so small, my gf always told me to spend something doing something else, it just don't worth the effort i spend. The reason i start thinking of doing this is i try to buy something here, as a poor student, i am not able to afford the performance stuff selling here. I try to buy something OS and i know as i can do it for myself, i can do it for someone else. The more product purchase though me, the bigger bargaining power i have, at the end, i will able to buy cheaper stuff for myself.:) just that simple.

I am just a middle man, if i can buy any product over here in reasonable price, i will rather buy it here instead of buying it oversea, save a lot of work, and i got warrenty too. Unfortunately, the disbutor over here do make hell lot of $$, the biggest different i know, instead of performance parts, is car audio. I go to a audio shop asking for price of an Apline 7998, the RRP is $1699, the best price the shop able to give me is 1300, the street price of this HU in HK is $900, i told the shop and he say the price he get this HU is somewhere around 1100? even shops over here don't make ANY profit, they still not able to match the price OS...:)

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
