G'day all. Im new to the RB series motors but not to motors in general. ive got a redtop rb and the butterfly's in the inlet manifold are all clogged up and stiff. is it acceptable to just remove them completely or should i get em working properly?

Best airflow move u can do to a redtop is remove those butterflys.. Do it and u'll get a lot more airflow and better response from ur engine. I have a redtop atm and still has the butterflys in it, havent driven around in a car with them removed but my response with an RB25 turbo charger is satisfactory at best.

Definately remove the butterflys in a redtop as its a major restriction. All redtops are 12 port heads as opposed to 6 porters in the silvertops. There is a butterfly on every second port on a redtop with the actuating rod going through al 12 ports. The area the rod itself takes is a lot of restriction. If you took the area the rod takes across all 12 ports it equates to having two ports completly blocked if not more so remove them completley.
