Well, I'm doing my first oil/oil filter change, and managed fairly well until i removed my oil filter, and oil just PISSED everywhere from the filter. I'd had the oil draining for about 30 mins, do i have to drain longer? Now i have about a cup of old oil over my garage floor...

I always spill heap of oil but i use a tray to catch it , it works better than the floor

Yeah i had a tray, but didn't quite expect another cup or so pissing out when i removed the filter. Also because the filter is in sideways that's why. Just wished it didn't get all over my nice clean engine (f^*k the garage floor!) :laughing-smiley-014:

Draining time has nothing to do with oil filter oil. The filter has oil in it. After you do it a few times, you'll learn to anticipate where the oil comes from etc.

I normally do the oil/filter without dropping a single drop on the floor. Put some cardboard down for safety anyways.

I use rags and carefully stuff them in under the oil filter. They obviously need to be right up against the block so they're under the end of the filter. Sometimes you will have a little spill but the rags soak up most of it and keep things fairly clean.
