Got Defected Anyone Offer Advise (edit: Dont Have To Clear Yew!

hey guys, i own a 95 R33 in Newcastle NSW. i got a formal warning defect on sunday for

"1. intercooler fitted in cold air intake check ADR complience

2. lowered vehicle check height

3. 3 " exhaust check noise/emissions

4. enjineers certificate required"

that is how the cop wrote it out under faults found - can i get away with it on spelling mistake of engineer? lol

Just went today and saw my mate who owns an import parts yard and he said that i need to box in the pod and that will pass, the front bar though has some of the rheo cut to fit my front mount... will i need a new front bar? are front mounts legal as long as they dont damage the front bar rheo? my mate says it will not pass ?? the height is ok as i have coilovers and if not its an adjustment job which i knew anyways , umm the exhaust isnt too loud but im doubtful of an emmisions test as a lot of carbon deposits on my rear as it is running rich... will i need to go to sydney to get this done as i have been told? also lastly the cop listed on the faults 4. engineers cert required.... does this mean its enforcable? like do i have to get it engineered? as it was listed as a fault...?

my mods are as follows:

i so should have got a RWC b4 i bought the car as i didnt do the mods and sorta thought the mods were relatively ok

-Highflowed standard r33 turbo

-3"dump pipe into high flow cat, 3 1/2" cat back HKS exhaust into X-Force Cannon w/ 5" tip

-Apexi electronic boost controller

-Hybrid front mount intercooler kit w/ 600mm/300mm/76mm intercooler core

-Wolf 3d fully tuneable aftermarket ECU with hand controller

-Splitfire Coilpacks - 6 months old

-Simota airpod filter

Body:

Modified front bar with centre section cut out to fit intercooler

-Legal Tinted Windows

Brakes/Suspension/wheels:

-HSD fully adjustable coilovers with height/dampner/camber control

-18" 5 star RJR 18 x 8 Wheels with Maxis Tyres (6 months old)

Interior:

-autometer boost guage a pillar but not higher than steering wheel

-Apexi AVC-r controller dash mounted, can give guage readouts for speed, boost, revs, duty cycle etc

-Wolf 3d hand controller (Readouts for engine temp, revs, Turbo Air Temp etc etc)

-Dash repainted in white same colour as the car

-all seats and trim standard r33 gear

-genuine momo alloy gear knob

Can anyone tell me if i have to get it engineered? or does it just have to be blue slipped? as it has to be cleared by a "part inspection at an authorised unregistered inspection station" if so who is the best and cheapest one to go to? i just want to do the minimum to pass as i have litle money as i have rego in 2 months ,

also i have been given 21 days to fix the defects...

PLEASE HELP

EDIT..... YEs thats right the rta said that "formal Warnings" dont go through the system so im stoked expecially cos rego is around the corner in oct!!! so yer ill be hiding my cooler and stuff till i can get engineered.

Find yourself a good mechanic to get past most of the basic little things like frontmount, pod etc etc..

As for emissions.. If your exhaust is too loud swap it for a stocker in the mean time to pass the test then switch back.

Basically your mechanic will take care of most of the paperwork involved, except for the emissions part which requires that EPA bullshit I think.

ok but what about the last listed fault the cops wrote? "4. engineers certificate required"

does this mean i have to get one or is it just a suggestion? or what? does the reo on a front bar have to be in tact? ive been told minehas little left and will fail... the pod is easy and exhaust isnt too loud just maybe emissions test might fail.

anyone else please if you know what i should do? as it has to go to get a blue slip basically.

you may have to get the reo reinforced to make up for the bits cut out. i know my mate had to get his strengthened cause the cops told him to.

yer but i find it hard to believe ppl dont know whats legal and whats not especially on SAU. like eseriously im getting different views ive heard some ppl getting engineeredmicrotechs etc and front mounts pods etc etc etc. i know the height is 100mm under the car is it not? i checked today my car IS unfortunaley lower than that at the exhaust its about 60-80mm so im gonna have to get the coilovers adjusted up, thats fine, ill get my pod boxed in, but i need to know about boost controllers ie i have an AVC-R and Wolf 3d ECU and also whats the deal with front bar reos?

i know theres someone out there who knws, please show yourslf! lol

You can't modify the reo bar to fit in your front mount. Just rip your cooler off and get a standard front bar with the standard reo.

na stuff that ill just get a gtr front bar as i hate stock front bars and if i have to def get another one then ill just spend the extra $$ on a decent one but i have no money and may have to sell the car if i cant aford to do all of this shit in time... god damn cops!!! just b4 rego... why couldnt this happended after rego etc

Buddy - this happens to nearly all of us... let's face it, if you drive a sports car - the liklihood of it being modified is like really high...

First step - take it on the face, don't stress too much and just work at it... I got defected twice in one month... part of what it takes to own a 'modified' Skyline buddy...

Ok, you got two choices... keep the frontmounted intercooler or the Pod filter... you can't have both - anyone that tells you you can box up the pod etc and then it will be legal is not correct... the law states that you can only have 1 'air inducted' modification... so yeah, if I were you - I would lose the Pod filter - go to a wrecker or post up here and buy yourself a stock airbox.

Now, with your height - unless you got adjustible coil-overs... you'll have to buy some higher suspension springs etc and make your car look higher again... that's all I can suggest....

With the exahust - you will have to get a less-loud exhaust fitter - most unlikely you will be summoned to the EPA for a decibell/pollutions test - make sure you pass it with a smaller exhaust or it will cost you more and will be more troublesome.

With the Engineers certificate - I don't know about how it is up in NSW, but it's not mandatory here in VIC where I live... if the cop has written this on your defect notice... if I were you - I would write to them and ask for this final request to be removed as it is not mandatory from what I know of - as long as you get your mechanic to fix up all of the above and present it to your local roads and traffice authority office - this should be fine.

Good luck buddy - don't feel too let down, it happens to everyone once in a while - if I were you, I would fix the above up once and for all so that you don't have this hassle anymore!!

hey dude yeh ull be fine ive been done a few time i was t the illegalz one night got defected they told me i need to change the piping of my cooler change the cooler its self blow off valve and air filter i just returned it all to stock then got it past then put it all back on soo just do that if ya can best way its only cost me 26$ to get it cleard so u should be sweet

take it over to carrington rta and ask them what you have to do,last time i did this they ripped the defect up and wrote a new one to just put standard air filter on.and the copper gave me the same defects as you,(cops need to know what there defecting people for!!!! this is getting BULLSH#t!!!!!!!!!)

box it in man i put mine under clear perspex sure the could see the filter lol but they couldnt say nuffin about it it was enclosed as for the front reo bar i dun even have one lol the body kits wouldn't let me fit it on there lol so its all good have been defected 3 times they never even looked at it lolz so good luck

also remember that i got given a "written formal warning" and i am just reading on the rta site that i only have to go to get a blue slip and yer. what do i do with the blue defect slip?

it says on the site i dont have to return it to the rta??? what does that mean cos it says i have 21 days to clear the defects etc... so confused by all this bullshit, cops should go and catch real criminals liek ice addicts and not waste time on hard working guys like myself... i am determined to beat this shit as i love my car, i went through so much shit to get it and im not about to give in on this shit!!!

what does the inspection have to be? is it like major inspection? i dunno if the ones u get are the same as us here in syd but yeh the cop told put on the defect notice that the car needed tp be engineered but it didnt i just put it all back to stock and it passed lolz all good

Sorry to hear you got defected. May i ask where you got done? were you doing anything silly? was this last friday night ??

Anyway you could return the car back to stock OR get a engineers certificate and emissions test done. I could try and help you with the emissions test but there is no gaurentee you will be able to get it pass with your computer as I have only known of Autronics & Power FC & Standard computer to get through.

You will also need to get a engineers certificate for the intercooler no matter what (if you keep it on)

You will also need to go to a exhaust shop who are approved to get noise tests done and get one of those. mine cost me $35 and i can help you in that department as well.

There are 2 ways to do it - go back to stock will cost a crapload OR get it fully engineered and approved. if you love your car that much id start trying to get the emissions test pass and then go for the engineers certificate.

If you want to get your car to pass the emissions test then i may be able to have a look at it and advise you on what you need to do before you go down to do the test.

I have my emissions test and the poilice are never interested in looking at the rest of the car for faults etc etc when they see it. if your not driving like a dickhead they will not defect you.

dude put plates in the exhaust i got done by the epa i put to steel plates in then drilled holes i have a 3.5 all the way through to the cannon which is 6 inch so its pretty loud i had to get it cleared at the exhaust shop it actua;lly worked its what the guys said to do

the easy way would be to just return everything to standard(not sure about intercooler,i didn't have to)if you return everything to standard to dont have to get the emissions test done,from what i can remember the import wreckers in adamstown usally has all the parts to return to standard,and will prob lend it out for a small price.the intercooler is usally fine aslong as the reo isn't cut(my front bar has been cut i just have the reo showing in the middle and since the cops see that they tend to leave me alone
