well i started to do engine teardown today and im completly lost on the vacuum tube and i guess the vacuum block under the manifold, where do the hoes go? on the vacuum tube there is a nipple on eith side of it, where do they run to? and is the vacuum block under the manifold my vacuum source to run like wastegate lines and boost guage to? if not there please explain with detail or tell me where i can find this info. i know im a noob to the rb scene but to engine scene ive been neck deep! please dont bash please help me!

i know about the aac but explain all info on the rb26 intake manifold setup i have the fsm but really no info just directions! dump your knowelege on to me !!!

First up, the service manual has all this information, I could describe each when I get home and check out all my pictures, but will go from top of head.

The wastegate feeds actually come from the the turbo side of the engine bay. If you look around, the feeds from both turbo’s go into a Y pipe, which wraps round the back of the head, to the boost control solenoid, then back around the head, to another Y pipe and to the gate themselves. Place your gauge/ EBC feed here.

The second photo you posted; the two larger hoses, looking like bull horns that point towards the head, go to the shared chamber that takes / give air to all the cylinders (due to multi throttle bodies)

Hose on the right with perforated sheath is for the BOV’s.

One of the metal pipes on left of the “vacuum block” as you call it, is for the brake booster.

There’s a transmission vent in there somewhere too, that connects to the plenum and just hangs / points downwards.

If you trace each of the lines it’s pretty easy to figure out what does what. If you get stuck on something specific, post back here.

so what you are telling me is that i can use any of those 3 ports of the vacuum block to feed my wastegate/bov/fpr?

on the other side of it where the hard metal lines come out are for what?

and what about the two fittings one on either side of the balance tube go to where? if u need pics i will post them

God no, thats not what im saying. Im telling you the OEM use for each. You can decide how to hook what up >_<

Use the stock nipple on the front of the balance tube to feed your FPR. Make this the shortest most direct tubing you can, to minimize any lag time between manifold pressure and the corresponding fuel pressure change. Stock FPR is bolted onto to the front of the fuel rail. Use the stock BOV feed for any after market BOV's. As i mentioned, if using twin turbos, you might has well use the stock piping. The to and from lines connect to the boost solinoid, near the injector ballast, on the drivers side strut tower.

"Brake Booster" the cylinder looking thing, on the top left hand of the firewall (when looking into engine bay) with the brake fluid canister coming out of it.

im not using the stock turbos so i am ellimating those hoses runinng to the stock wastegates. so where should i get a good boost source from?

but to answer my main question is the whole intake on the rb26 a vacuum source? or just after the throttle bodies/and/balance tube.

if u could please tell me places to hook up the vacuum lines to run for my wastegate(single turbo conversion), boost guage, bov. and brake booster. u can use my old pics as a refrence

Not sure, will have to check when I get home, i "think" its the MAP sensor for the stock boost gauge.

Technically you are correct, though the functions you suggest that require vacuum/boost, each have their the own needs. As you would know, sticking the boost line for your EBC on the FPR feed isn’t recommended. Using the boost like that goes to your charcoal canister for a gauge isn’t recommended either.

You should get a good source straight from the outlet on the turbo compressor cover, running to your wastegate, with what ever you choose to control boost between.

The balance tube, and the “vacuum block” only exists because of the multi throttle body’s, as its the closed throttle plates that are creating the vacuum; resulting in the plenum not being a vacuum source

As you suggest, its only vacuum between the throttle plates and the intake valves, with the balance tube sampling each runner. Its that balance tube that’s your most direct, closest source of good vacuum (hence the nipple for FPR)

Using the rear nipple (for the stock boost gauge map sensor, on the upper firewall i think) Would be a good place for your after market gauge / EBC feed.

Exactly which one of those two metal pipes is for the brake booster, will have to wait till I get home.

Hi I need your help,

I have been researching and tinkering with my rb26 and am having trouble locating the rear vacuum line. My engine was transplanted so were kinda trying to figure things out.

I have found the old by pass line and transfered it to my blow off valve, (sard r2d2) which wont open.

Im running an AEM ECU with map, AIT, and boost control. I noticed that the shop that tuned the car used the fuel pressure vacuum to run the MAP, boost gauge, FPR, and used the charcoal canister vacuum to run the EBC.

now following this thread I tried to locate the old boost line behind the head and upon inspecting finding it It had no vacuum. I traced it further to the throttle side and also no vacuum. I think i need to pull down the throttle body to get a closer look but its a real big job and Im not to keen to do it.

How do I locate the rear vacuum line source or stock wastegate vacuum source?
