In one of the new Top gear episode, the presenters placed "NASCAR sux" on their car and they get stones thrown at by American redneck. Pretty funny to watch. :) Some drivers could be fanatics.

Anyway, they reconciled...

Maybe what you should be saying is how does someone not get black flagged for shunting the leader off the track (thats what ambrose did).

They were saying that Ambrose had a damaged rear from receivng a shunt from Gordon before that incident

From the footage I seen, Gordon made a clean pass up the inside of the corner, then Ambrose gave him a nudge on the way out of the corner and turned Gordon around. It was Ambrose that should have gone back to position 12 not Gordon.

Ambrose wasn't black flagged, Gordon was - I'll confidently say that the NASCAR judges are better informed than I/we are and called it for what it was... that would equate to Ambrose still being in the race and Gordon being disqualified.

Driver gets apology and a compliment from Robby Gordon

Thursday, August 09, 2007

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Marcos Ambrose was cheated out of a chance to win his first NASCAR race by Robby Gordon. His disappointment was lifted, though, when he was given an opportunity to race the first Nextel Cup event of his career.

His benefactor? None other than Gordon himself.

Feeling guilty because he intentionally wrecked Ambrose in the closing laps of the Busch Series race in Montreal, Gordon offered Ambrose a car to race this weekend on the road course at Watkins Glen, N.Y. He got the idea from a fan, who suggested it would be a peace offering to the Australian driver.

"We were all bitterly disappointed after last week, and I'm sure if Robby could have wound the clock back, he would have done things differently," Ambrose said Wednesday as he and Gordon detailed their partnership.

"It's part apology and part compliment as far as I'm concerned."

Ambrose and Gordon were racing for the lead with four laps to go in Saturday's race when a multi-car accident brought out a caution. Both drivers said they weren't sure who was ahead when the yellow flag was displayed.

All they are certain of is that at some point, Gordon passed Ambrose for the lead. Seconds later, Ambrose spun Gordon.

By the time Gordon righted his car, NASCAR scored him in 13th place. Gordon argued he should have been no lower than second, and he stayed in second on the restart, earning a disqualification.

Still, with two laps to go, he spun Ambrose, took the lead and crossed the finish line in first, denying Ambrose a sure win.

The article says exactly what I stated above, yet Nascar still called Gordon as being in the wrong (which he was for the 2nd incident but not the first which started it all).

You missed my point... the incident that you are referring to as the "first incident" was actually the second incident, there was an incident prior to this which damaged the rear quarter of Ambrose's car (our drivers side, US pax side). Although the first incident isn't seen in the film clip, the damage is visible and has been discussed on the news etc. Also, with the second incident where Ambrose hit Gordon... Gordon had passed Ambrose on a yellow flag.

It must be noted, that the NASCAR officials did not dispute Ambrose's actions, yet fined Gordon $35,000 and placed him on probation through the end of the year for his misconduct. I guess they saw more than we did.

If Gordon was an innocent victim... why is he so damn sorry?

    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
    • I’d love to find some where that can recover the dashes to look brand new and original. Mine has a very slight bubble, nothing compared to some I’ve seen though
    • $170K. I asked one of the guys there as a joke if that price was just for the passenger seat as it was where the price sheet was... he tried really hard to crack a smile 😄 He also mentioned that every single part of the car was inspected and either restored or replaced with a new or as new part, or made from scratch. The interior was incredible, every inch like a new car.
