Hi Guys,

This isn't really Skyline related, but I've had this idea in my head for a while, so wanted to ask it. I was going to ask it at Performance Forums in their Engine Conversions section, but they won't let me join because my Yahoo email (which I pay for, and is my only email), is not allowed.

I thought of this after reading the RB30DET thread. Basically, what I'd like to do is buy a VQ30DET engine and a VQ35DE engine and put the 30DET head on the 35 block - in the same fashion as the RB25/30 hybrid. Is this possible and has anyone done this? I haven't got the bore and stroke specs of either, but I'd assume the 35 just had a longer stroke. Is this correct? All the other bits like the rods and stuff should be able to come straight off the 35 shouldn't they? Having said all this, would it just be easier to buy the VQ35DE and turbo it using custom parts. The gearbox, I'm not sure on, but I would assume that the one they use on the VQ35DE would be fairly strong.

Also, if what I've just written is absolute shit, please don't be too hard on me as my knowledge of engines doesn't really extend into the internals. I know bolt ons only really :) Please tell me if it's possible though.

Anyway, at the moment, it's just an idea, but it's something I'd like to do in the future. I may just buy a VQ30DET from a Y33 or something and put that in the donor car (undecided at the moment, but I'm thinking an R34 GT, and the 2.0L engine can go into some shitbox).

Cheers,

Michael

Then again, I could either get a 350Z ($$) or wait a bit until the V35 coupes are available (too $$ for me too) and just put the 30DET head on the standard 35 block. That would mean a lot less work than a whole engine conversion.

What sort of turbo packages are available for the 350Z now? It's got the same engine, so I might be able to look at one of those. The reason I thought of just using the 30DET head was for cost, as it would be a lot cheaper than custom parts I thought.
