I guess you need to look at why their not ADR approved, then understand why a stock bonnet is th ebest thing to use.

In short no fibre glass bonnet will be approved for road use in Australia, basiclly cause they dont crumple in n accident, then slice into human flesh like a knife on impact.

The have even gone through glass and hit the driver of the car in past cases. Not pretty im sure you understand why their not ADR approved...

In short get a stock bonnet asap.

wow good point! i would be so pissed if i got cut in half by someones bonnet

thanks to all u out there..to technically ..yeah screwed..but ill keep my fingers crossed and whn a fine do come along..then look for a normal bonnet...ill upload my pic...yet it looks so sick....

Blitsbodykits do a fully ADR approved bonnet for all Skylines :thumbsup:

I should refrase...

All of the cheap knock off bonnets are straight fibreglass. Which cant get ADR approval due to their impact qualities. (ie. snap and cut rather than bend and crumble)

But some bonnets (ie brand name, costlly $3000+) use a kevlar/carbon compound with the fibreglass to give it a dull edge if the bonnet were to snap (ie. car accident).

Noy works for a carbon shop, he would be able to explain the in's and out's of fibreglass legality better than I...

But as I understand it, to make them cheap the company's dont go throught the ADR approval process as is rather expensive and would make the bonnets quite costlly...

Obviouslly then they would be in direct competition with the big boys like "blitz" or "Veliside"...

Some of the bonnets could be fine and pass the test with flying colours, but its the cost to do the tests that most companys dont under go. Hence why few imported body kits are legal...

Would be interesting to see if they actually are listed with the transport department or if they are just saying they are ADR approved.

Reason I question it was a few month back ACA ran a story on bullbars and how companys were making them and putting the ADR sticker on the bar for airbag complience when the bars were never tested. Not saying thats the case with these, but something I didt consider when making my statement was the aussie dollar is quite strong atm which has made the price crash on many imported items, materials and so forth. So it could be possible i guess, At $800AUD thats a good buy!

noob question, how much lighter is a fibro bonnet. i have been wondering which is the cheaper option going for more power ie upgrade turbo/zhuast or putting the car on a diet?

anyone done both?

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
