Rb20det Choke?

hey mates does the rb20det have an electric choke? i think mine may be stuck when starting. does the ecu control this? mine takes 3-5 cranks in the morning when cold to start and i dont think its ignition related.

anything that could cause this problem? any valves or?

give the AAC valve a clean, it sits on the back of the intake manifold near the brake booster almost..

the rb20 ecu gets a signal from the key when you hit 'start' which is basically the choke and definately helps with cold starts.

but apart from that there isn't any conventional choke like u'd find in a carby motor. if you find it hard to start in the morning, or after any long period of rest, you might wanna do a service on it, check plugs, fuel filter, etc..

also make sure your letting the fuel pump prime properly as fuel can drain back to the tank when sitting for a while, turning straight to start without sitting on IGN for a couple of seconds will turn the motor over before there is enough fuel pressure in the fuel rail.

thanks for the info. i'm going to clean the aac valve, already put new plugs, fuel filter in her. if that doesnt help i'll change the fuel pump, and try another ecu maybe.

some cars are just like that. sr20's take longer to start than some cars. it is probably to do with the strength of the starter motor. if it is a bit weak then it it isn't spinning the motor fast enough to start straight away.

but the choke is controlled by the ecu. it has a cold start enrichment. when the ecu gets power it registers the water temp and adjusts the amount of fuel to put in. if it is working it should idle a bit high when cold than hot.

The battery is one year old. 500 cold cranking amps. The only thing thats weird is when you start the car, you have to rev it to 3000 rpm for the alternator to kick in. maybe a new alt and battery would help. took apart the idle air control valve and it looked clean and functional. I think a new battery, alt, and fuel pump would help.
