Im pretty sure this is possible but would like to double check. I think u would use whatever pfc suits the loom/sensors u are using but u never know, it might be more like u use the pfc that suits the loom/sensors AND/OR the head/inlet.

I plan to run a rb26/30 in my hcr 32 with a AP Pfc pro for the ecu. Also want to retain the 6 throttles and run a gt3040 turbo for about 500hp or whatever it makes on 1 bar.

To keep things as simple/cheap as possible i want to retain as many rb20 parts as i can for the head and inlet manifolds. Things such as the coils, tps, injectors, cas etc. This will also keep the cost of the head inlet down if i dont buy it with the extra stuff i perhaps dont need.

So basically can i use the stock loom sensors etc on the rb26 head/inlet thus being able to retain my rb20 pfc/550cc nismo inj etc??

thanks guys

There is a good chance you will be able to hook up the rb20 idle control motor to bypass the 6 throttle bodies, however in the long run it may be cheaper to use a Q45 throttle with aftermarket plenum if you dont already have the manifold.

Finally found it 36 pages into the RB30 thread lol

Hi guys, whilst GTR- Ben is almost right, it is actually the sensors you use on the engine that determine which ECU and loom you use. As an example we have an RB31DET (RB30 at 3.1 litres with an RB26DETT head) that uses an RB20DET Power FC and the original R32 GST loom . What I have done is use all of the sensors off the old RB20DET on the RB31DET. I swapped over the water temp sensors, knock sensors, throttle position sensor, CAS, boost sensor, oil pressure sensor, AFM (we used a Q45 AFM) etc. Plus I used the 565 cc injectors that were in the RB20DET, which were top feed and high impedance to match the Power FC.

I did it this way, rather than use an RB26DETT ECU and loom, because I already had an RB20DET loom and Power FC in the car. So it seemed simpler to swap the sensors and injectors over while both engines were out of the car. Plus I am not very good with looms, I never seem to be able to get them to fit back in the way they should.

If I had an R33GTST I would have done what GTR-BEN suggested and used all the original stuff with the RB30 bottom end.

Hope all that makes sense.

    • Thanks for your insight, it being basically useless will impact my decision for sure. I thought it may help the engine breath better I guess. But then again, I have also been told that tuning an RB20DE is also not worth it. Exactly, we follow EU Regulations. There is a bit more leeway on older vehicles. My Porsche 924 came without a cat from factory and managed to pass, they still mentioned that I have quite high emissions on it though.
    • My apologies, I stand corrected. Thanks for registering to mention this! And thank you for actually reaching out to the council to clarify. This is the sensible thing to do and the opposite of what I was alluding you were doing. I may have seen too much outrage and hate being fueled on the internet and it has made me a somewhat cynical old man. Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are real people behind websites and accounts. In my defence, CarExpert and CarExplore do read quite similarly at a glance. I shall try and do better in the future. (Please stick around to get the latest scoops on dealing with old Nissan shitboxes )
    • Don't bother. The poor little RB20 doesn't make enough gas flow to challenge the flow capabilities of even the littlest cat, and you won't make any extra power, and all you'll do it soot up your rear bumper. Plus....is Malta not runing under Euro regs?
    • Hey Daniel, sorry to hear that and thanks for posting up for us at a really hard time I only knew SmoothLine through the forums, we never met as we are based in different states, but when he was most active on here he was quite a while back so not many of the current crowd might remember him. I am pretty sure he was active in the Queensland SQU club but that is defunct now too (times are changing and we are all getting older). Farewell SmoothLine!
    • Turns out depending on whether the car was equipped with TCS or not there are different signals coming to the dash, meaning there are different speedo clusters.  Wired in a speedo calibrator box from aliexpress and now works fine.
